Legal Awareness and Sensitization Program at District Jail Meerut
The students of Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law, Swami Vivekananda Subharti Vishwavidyalaya, Meerut, made an educational visit to Chaudhary Charan Singh, District Jail, Meerut, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, Meerut and under the direction of the Director of Subharti Law Institute Mr. Rajesh Chandra (Former Justice Allahabad High Court) and Under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, Dean, Faculty of Law. A team of 08 students went for an educational tour to District Jail Meerut with Dr. Sarika Tyagi, Convener Law Club. While sending off the team, the Director of Subharti Law College Mr. Rajesh Chandra (Former Justice Allahabad High Court) said that if our jails work as a reform planet, then it is a way of social reform. Various rights of prisoners are ensured. They should also be included in the mainstream of the society. After conviction they are kept away from the mainstream for some time to make them realize that illegal acts are punishable hence they should become good citizens.
Professor (Dr.) Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, Dean Faculty of Law said that the prison tour method is an important part of education through which students become aware about prison administration. An important part of the Indian system is the Indian prison system which is also called prison or correctional home. If the prison system is seen in the context of Indian conditions, then it appears of two types. One is the ordinary jail and the other is the special jail. Ordinary prison refers to such a prison which is meant for common prisoners and special prison refers to such a prison which is made available for notorious criminals, political criminals. There is a vast difference between the imprisonments prescribed in law and the actual imprisonments. After that students interacted with Jail superintendent and asked many questions, whether the prisoners get nutritious food at the right time? What is the arrangement for treatment when the prisoner falls ill? How many prisoners are currently in jail? The Jail Superintendent said that the lifestyle of the prisoners in the jail is normal; they remain cut off from the general public and society. The students got information about the security system of the jail, sports system, treatment system, library, video conferencing of meditation, educational activities etc.
Dr. Sarika Tyagi, Faculty of Subharti Law College, Subharti University, along with the District Legal Services Authority, and the students, provided detailed information about the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana to the inmates of the District Jail.
After that Mr. Vinod Sharma, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, told the prisoners in the District Jail about the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 2023 being run by the Government of India and said that under this scheme the country’s educated unemployed youth are giving free industrial training so that they can easily get employment opportunities in future. Under this scheme, training centers have been opened in cities of every state and so far more than 10 lakh candidates have benefited from this scheme. He said that we must be aware that the main objective of this scheme is to provide skills to the youth as well as to reduce unemployment from the country. Through this scheme, now those people can also get industrial training, who have been involved in any crime under any circumstance and are currently in jail. He said that all those poor citizens who do not have any source of income will be able to get the benefit of this scheme. The training provided through this scheme will be completely free of cost.
Applying for Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 2023 should be a native of India and only those who do not have any means of income are considered eligible for the scheme and the to apply for Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, necessary documents like Aadhaar card, voter card, identity card, mobile number, passport size photo, bank account details, etc. are required.. Applicants must be 10th or 12th pass.
After that Sh. Baljeet Singh panel advocate told them about free legal aid facility and said that these schemes are run by the Prime Minister Plumbing Rubber Retail Mining, Entertainment Video Life Science, Hospitality and Tourism Security Service ,Motor Vehicle, Agriculture Course, Insurance, Banking, Electronic and Construction Course, Apparel Beauty and Wellness, Hospitality ,Tourism Industry ,Furniture Courses are available because if the intentions are good So the destinations are also easy, the path ahead becomes clear automatically.
After that Jail superintendent said that Dozens of inmates of the District Jail also tried to imbibe it and with the help of the jail administration, these prisoners are trying to implement their positive intentions. These prisoners are becoming skilled by taking training under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana inside the prison itself. After getting out of punishment, they are working in a sports Factory etc. and they are earning money, so they can stand on their feet. In the visit Ashutosh Sharma, Rishabh, Anil Kishore, Himanshu Panwar, MD Tanzeel, Rahul Kumar II, Ayush Anand, Vyom, etc.
