National Science Day Celebration
National Science Day is celebrated in India on February 28 every year in honour of the Nobel Prize-winning Physicist Sir CV Raman. February 28 marks the day on which his discovery of the Raman Effect came to light in 1928. For this discovery, Sir CV Raman was awarded a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. He was the first Asian to receive a Nobel Prize in any branch of science. It is in honour of the great physicist that Indians celebrate National Science Day on February 28.
Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Department of Home Science celebrated this day on 29th Feb 2024. The program commenced with an introductory talk by Ms Urvashi Sharma where she explained the significance of the day to the students and the concept of Raman Effect. Further, a group discussion session was conducted with the post graduate and undergraduate students of the department. The topic of discussion was this year’s theme of National Science Day – “Indigenous technologies for Vikshit Bharat”.
The students were given 5 mins to analyse the topic and brainstorm their mind on the topic. Then students presented their views and ideas on the topic that how we can promote Indigenous technologies for development. In the end, students were sensitized to generate awareness to be Vocal for Local and develop our country and culture.
The program was successfully conducted under the Guidance of HOD Dr Nishma Singh by Ms Urvashi Sharma and Ms Virender Pal Kaur. Dr Shalu Nehra, Dr Neetu Yadav and Ms Swati Sharma also enlightened the students about these technologies from time to time during the session.
