National Sports Week
On the occasion of National Sports Week (26-31 August), various games were organized by Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University. Journalism students organized games like Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Tug of War and Badminton at the local General Mohan Singh Play-Ground, in which the students participated enthusiastically and energetically.
These games were organized under the instructions of University Grants Commission and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
First of all, Team Manisha and Team Arpit participated in the Kho-Kho competition, in which Team Manisha won 3-0. Monu Kumar, Vansh Chaudhary, Tina Som, Apoorva Kaushik, Sugandhi Bhardwaj, Anushka Solanki, Abhay Saini, Shaurya Khanna were the main players in this team, while Harshul Sharma, Divyanshu Aditya, Harshit, Aman Sharma, Bharti, Aastha Srivastava, Sumaiya Imtiaz and Bhoomi Kumari were in Arpit’s team.
After this, a volleyball competition was held in which Team Monu and Team Aman participated, in which Monu Kumar’s team won 21-09. Abhay Saini, Divyanshu Aditya, Vansh Chaudhary, Sumaiya Imtiaz and Aastha Srivastava were in Monu Kumar’s winning team, while Aman Sharma, Arpit, Harshit, Harshul, Anushka Solanki and Bharti were in the losing team. Shikeb Majeed played the role of referee in this competition, while the chief guest of the event was department alumnus Mohit Sengar.
Women and men teams participated in Tug-of-War in which men’s team Abhay defeated team Divyanshu by 2-1. In the women’s competition, team Apoorva defeated team Aastha by 2-1.
On the other hand, badminton competition was organized in badminton court of SITE College in which in men’s singles Harshul Sharma, a student of 3rd year BAJMC defeated Shaurya Khanna of BAJMC 1st by 2-1, while in women’s singles Priyanshi Bhatia, a student of BAJMC 1st year defeated Apoorva Kaushik of BAJMC 2nd year by 2-1 and won.
In men’s doubles competition, team Abhay and Arpit defeated team Harshit and Divyanshu by 2-1.
On this occasion, Head of Department Prof. (Dr.) Subhash Chandra Thaledi while addressing the students said that sports are very important for physical and mental development, while following the spirit of sports in life makes life more disciplined. He said that during the National Sports Week we should also work for the promotion of traditional rural games so that our traditional games can remain in existence. Ram Prakash Tiwari, Shaili Sharma, Shikeb Majeed were present in this competition, while sports coordinator Madhur Sharma played an important role in organizing the competition.
