The Swami Vivekananda Chair at Swami Vivekananda Subharti University, Meerut, in collaboration with the Heartfulness Organization, organized a dynamic and inspiring Youth Unite Program to celebrate the 161st birth anniversary of the revered Swami Vivekananda as ‘National Youth Day.’ The event, held on January 12, 2024, aimed to empower and motivate the youth through the teachings and ideals of Swami Vivekananda, fostering a sense of purpose, spirituality, and community service.

The Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Major General Dr. G.K. Thapliyal, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Abhay Shankaregowda, esteemed Chief Guest Shri Anupam Agarwal, Prof. Dr. Tushti Sharma, Professor, and Convener of the Swami Vivekananda Chair, and members of Youth Unite gathered to illuminate a lamp in front of the Swami Vivekananda statue. This symbolic gesture marked the commencement of the event, symbolizing the enlightenment and positivity that the occasion brought. Additionally, students from BNYS paid a touching tribute to Swami Vivekananda through a heartfelt rendition of Vivekananda Vandana. Their serene performance added a unique and meaningful touch to the celebration, beautifully capturing the essence of Swami Vivekananda’s profound teachings.

In the welcoming address, Dr. Tushti Sharma, Professor, and Convener of the Swami Vivekananda Chair and Head of the Language Department, said that Swami Vivekananda was born amidst the dichotomy of equality and inequality. She emphasized that Vivekananda is an inspiration for the youth who are actively stepping into higher education. Today’s youth, taking steps on the pedestal of higher education, must connect with the thoughts and literary works of Swami Vivekananda to contribute to the construction of future India.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Major General Dr. G.K. Thapliyal, expressed that Swami Vivekananda imparted valuable teachings on embarking upon an integral journey. He emphasized the significance of meditation as an essential aspect of this transformative journey. He highlighted how Vivekananda’s teachings continue to inspire individuals to lead a purposeful life and contribute meaningfully to society.

The chief guest of the program, Mr. Anupam Agrawal, Coordinator and Facilitator of the Heartfulness Organization, UP, delivered an insightful address on Youth Day. He expressed that Swami Vivekananda’s teachings always placed a strong emphasis on education that goes beyond mere academic knowledge. He highlighted that Swami Vivekananda envisioned an educational system that fosters holistic development, shaping individuals not only intellectually but also emotionally and spiritually.

Ms. Vindhya Goyal, Coordinator of Youth Uttar Pradesh, shared her thoughts on Swami Vivekananda’s personality. She emphasized that Swami Vivekananda was a figure of rich, profound, and multifaceted character. She elaborated on how Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and ideals have the power to resonate with the diverse facets of an individual’s life, encompassing intellectual growth, emotional well-being, and spiritual enlightenment.

In the subsequent segment of the program, Mr. Kamlesh D. Patel affectionately known as Daaji, the spiritual leader and global guide in the Heartfulness tradition, captured everyone’s attention as he directed the focus towards meditation. Leading a collective meditation for 125,000 youths, he encouraged participants to delve into the profound depths of their inner selves through this transformative practice. During his session, Mr. Patel discussed the significance of Youth Unite, underlining its primary objective of uniting the youth community committed to serving humanity and evolving as adaptable and resilient individuals. Youth Unite stands as a pillar to illuminate the practical application of Heartfulness techniques through internal guidance.

Following this meditative experience, Kuldeep Narayanji from the Sanskriti Department shared his insights on Swami Vivekananda, shedding light on the impactful teachings and philosophy of this revered figure.

Concluding this inspiring celebration, Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, took on the honorable task of delivering the vote of thanks.

Post the informative session, students from various colleges were invited to partake in an open poster competition.

Prizes were awarded to the winners, and the program concluded on a spiritual note with the distribution of prasad by the Sanskriti Department.

Dr. Pooja Gupta, Assistant Professor in the Department of Languages at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, expertly hosted the university’s celebration of Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary. Dr. Neeraj from the Department of Ayush collaborated as a proficient coordinator, skillfully steering the celebration of Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary.

In conclusion, the collaborative efforts of the Department of Languages, the Department of Ayush, and the Sanskriti Department culminated in a profoundly enriching celebration of Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary. The program not only honored the teachings of Swami Vivekananda but also demonstrated the university’s commitment to unity, holistic development, and the integration of diverse perspectives.
