Program on World Mental Health Care Day

REPORT – A visit to government child home, Surajkund Meerut organized by Sardar Patel  Subharti Institute of Law, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut in the association of  District Legal Service Authority, Meerut On the occasion of “World Mental Health day 2021” to celebrate the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The team of students was flagged off by Prof. (Dr.)  Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, Dean Faculty of Law, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut.  The team of Subharti Law College along with Mr. Kuldeep from DLSA interacted with Sh. Suresh  Chand Incharge, Child care home Surajkund. He said that 26 boys from various districts of  Western Uttar Pradesh are sheltered in the home. These children are here because of various because either they are alone, they are found at the railway station, bus adda, or their parents have been convicted in any offense. Team of students met with all the children (boys) having the age group of 10 yrs to below18 yrs. The team was welcomed by Mr. Suresh Chandra (in charge) of the child’s home. Students of Subharti Law College interacted with Mr. Kuldeep and Sh. Suresh Chandra  (in charge) and raised various questions about the children’s age, from where they are, and what is the status of these children? Whether they are having the status of conflict with the law or they are in need of care and protection? Mr. Kuldeep answered that these children are orphaned and abandoned or those who left their homes due to any other reasons or we can say that those who have been abandoned by their parents in trains or somewhere else. Further, he said that in each and every district there is a Child Welfare Committee (CWC) as well as a juvenile justice board.  Presently, Sh. Ajeet Kumar looks after the work of CWC. To look after this committee there is a DPO (District Probationary Officer) who is working under the supervision of the Child and  Women Welfare office. Juvenile Justice Board consists of 5 members, one is the presiding officer of the board apart from him one advocate, NGO members, social activists must be members of the board. After this students and the faculty members met with all the children of the care home. They were from 10 yrs. To 17 yrs. These children are studying in various classes of CBSE & other schools with the help of a Basic education officer. During the meeting, various questions were asked by the team members with all the children.  

Dr. Sarika Tyagi, Convener Law Club, SVSU motivated children to study hard and be strong in their life. Live your life with a positive attitude, don’t feel alone, always share your feelings with your inmates. She asked about their class, hobby, and aim in life and asked about their daily routine life in a care home. Mr. Suresh Chand said that they are working for the admission of more children in schools and that they are facilitated for education in the home itself but for the last two years they are taking online classes. In government homes, all facilities for their food, study, and entertainment are provided. They all live in harmony and enjoy all festivals.  

While motivating the children Shalini Goel Member. Legal Aid Committee, Subharti Law  College said that there must not be any inferiority complex in your mind that you are separated  from your family, because you can complete your studies by staying away from the family, and  the aim of your should be to focus on studies  

Aman Goel Student of BA.LL.B V Year narrated a short story of Sh. APJ Kalam motivated them to fight with the circumstances & see the dream with open eyes to achieve their goal. Other students (Anil Kishor, Sumit Sharma, Tanzeel, Himanshu, Abhayjeet & Paramjeet  Singh Hudda) from Subharti Law College also interacted with the children and made them feel happy.
