Guest Lecture Report: Research Data Management and Role of Libraries
Raja Kunwar Singh Subharti Department of Library and Information Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut organized a guest lecture titled “Research Data Management and Role of Libraries”on3rd October, 2025. The guest lecture was delivered by Dr. S.K. Das, Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. The lecture aimed to highlight the importance of research data collection, preservation, organization, and ethical management, while emphasizing the evolving role of libraries in contemporary research.
On this occasion Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, introduced Dr. S.K. Das and said thatthe research data forms the backbone of today’s knowledge economy, and libraries play a crucial role in its preservation and dissemination. He mentioned that such lectures help prepare students for future research challenges.
During his address, Dr. S.K. Das elaborated on the significance of proper data management and the ethical utilization of research data. He explained that modern libraries have evolved beyond traditional book repositories to become dynamic research support centers. Libraries now assist scholars in data curation, open access publishing, digital repository management, and research collaboration, serving as integral partners throughout the entire research lifecycle.
The program was attended by faculty members and all students of the department. The guest lecture successfully enhanced awareness about research data management practices and reinforced understanding of libraries as essential partners in the academic research ecosystem.
