Sanskrit Divas Celebration

The Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekananda Subharti University, organized Sanskrit Divas on 20 August 2024, celebrating the event with grandeur and deep cultural significance. The program, led by Dr. Yashpal, was held under the leadership of Professor Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), and Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Department of Languages.
The event featured various senior Acharyas and teachers who shared their insights on the importance of the Sanskrit language and emphasized the need for its preservation. Professor Dr. Sudhir Tyagi spoke passionately about Sanskrit as a vital component of Indian culture and knowledge. He highlighted the language’s role in preserving cultural heritage and its potential contributions to modern science and technology, encouraging students to foster a deeper interest in Sanskrit.
Professor Rajeshwar Pal emphasized Sanskrit as the foundation of Indian cultural and historical heritage, portraying it as an essential part of the Indian mindset and way of life. He discussed the necessity of studying Sanskrit literature to understand the pinnacle of human thought and called for research to unlock the ancient knowledge embedded in classical Sanskrit texts.
Dr. Seema Sharma, HOD Languages, outlined the ongoing efforts towards promoting and developing Sanskrit education. She urged both teachers and students to maintain a sense of dedication and respect for the language. Dr. Sharma also pointed out that about 95% of Sanskrit manuscripts remain unexplored, representing an invaluable treasure that requires preservation.
Assistant Acharya Dr. Yashpal focused on the literary and educational contributions of Sanskrit, discussing its benefits in both social and educational contexts. Dr. Ranveer Singh addressed the challenges in teaching Sanskrit and emphasized the need for innovative teaching methods.
Dr. Swati Sharma highlighted the literary and cultural importance of Sanskrit, noting its significance for mental peace and development. and Dr. Anuj Bawra emphasized its educational and social impact, particularly in understanding social and moral values.
Dr. Farah Hashmi explored the literary contributions of Sanskrit and its timeless relevance. She pointed out that the ancient Sanskrit texts still hold valuable knowledge applicable in the present day. The event was expertly conducted by Dr. Nishi Raghav, who presented her views on the modern utility of Sanskrit, especially in fields like computer science and artificial intelligence.
Students from the Department of Natural and Yogic Sciences enriched the program by reciting shlokas and poems, adding a spiritual and cultural dimension to the celebration.
The contributions of the language department’s faculty, students, and non-teaching staff, including Deepak, Manju, and others, were instrumental in making the event a success. This celebration of Sanskrit Divas not only renewed appreciation for the language but also underscored its continuing relevance in contemporary times. The event served as a reminder of the rich cultural roots and enduring legacy of Sanskrit.
