A ONE-DAY WORKSHOP ON
“SENSITIZATION ABOUT THE BOTANY: BOTANICAL SURVEY OF INDIA”
Department of Botany, Keral Verma Subharti College of Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut conducted One-Day Workshop on “Sensitization about the Botany: Botanical Survey of India” on 4th January 2024. Firstly, Ms. Shachi Tiwari, Ph.D. Scholar Botany and Ms. Khushi, student MSc. Botany have introduced all the dignitaries, faculty members and participants. The event was commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana by Dean Faculty of Science Prof. (Dr.) Renu Mavi, and various Head of Departments. Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Dayal welcome all the dignitaries, faculty members and participants and briefly introduced about the significance of this workshop and its outcome. She told that without Botany any branch of life sciences does not have any existence, so all the students of Life sciences should know about the Botany at each level.
On this day, two awareness lectures have been delivered i.e. Lectures-1, All about the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) by Dr. Anju Rani. The aim of this lecture was to give intellectual knowledge about the BSI (History, establishment, significance and digital herbarium) to promote a deeper understanding among the students and faculties of Life Sciences. Lecture- 2 were exclusively presented on the topic “Authentic collections in well planned herbaria and its uses in Educational and Research Institutions” by Dr. Adesh Kumar. He has presented on all about the Herbaria and gave a useful hands-on session on how to prepare herbaria for research in Botany.
After the session a brainstorming Quiz Contest on related topic in which all the students of life sciences were participated and expressed their outstanding knowledge about the Botany and BSI. In Quiz competition, Ms. Shachi Tiwari (Ph.D. Scholar Botany) and Mr. Migar Priyadarshi (B.Sc. Biotechnology) secured the first position, Ms. Swarnima Tiwari (Ph.D. Scholar Botany) secured the second position and Ms. Riya Gaur (BSc. Chemistry) got the third position. With the declaration of results and beautiful words Dr. Permod Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Botany conveyed the vote of thanks to all guests, dignitaries, faculties and students.
The organizing secretary of this program were Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Dayal, Head, Department of Botany, Dr. Anju Rani, Dr. Permod Kumar and Dr. Adesh Kumar. The profound cooperation from Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Dr. Manjul Mungali, Dr. Supriya, Dr. Devendra Kumar, Dr. Nisha Malik, Dr. Khyati Lehari, Department of Biotechnology and student volunteers was gratefully acknowledged. The program marked a significant step towards fostering awareness and significance of Botany and BSI in education and research.
