“In the Global Scenario Hindi: Challenges and Solutions”

The Hindi Diwas webinar conducted by the Department of Languages, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University on January 10, 2024, was a notable event that brought together distinguished speakers to shed light on various aspects of the Hindi language, its cultural significance, and its role in the contemporary world. The event aimed to celebrate Hindi Diwas and emphasize the importance of promoting Hindi in education and society.

Dr. Aashish Kumar, Assistant Professor, commenced the program with a captivating Hindi poem that delved into the rich history and evolution of the Hindi language. His poetic narration set the tone for the event, invoking a sense of pride and nostalgia for the language.

Dr. Tushti Sharma (Professor), the Head of the Department provided insights into the university’s commitment to fostering linguistic diversity. She highlighted the role of the Hindi language in connecting people and communities, reinforcing the cultural fabric of the institution.

Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, (Professor), Dean, FASS emphasized the broader importance of the Hindi language. He articulated its role in preserving cultural identity and fostering a sense of unity among the diverse student body. The importance of Hindi as a medium of expression in academic and creative pursuits was also underscored.

Maj. Gen Dr. G.K Thapliyal SM (Retd.), the Vice-Chancellor, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University discussed the significance of translating professional subject books into Hindi. He asserted that Hindi, being an easily comprehensible language, facilitates better understanding and accessibility to a wider audience. The emphasis was on bridging the gap between languages, making knowledge more inclusive.

Speakers and their Contributions:

  1. Shagufta Niyaz: Assistant Professor, Aligarh Muslim University
    Dr. Shagufta Niyaz elaborated on the theme of the year, “Hindi Diwas – Traditional Knowledge through Artificial Intelligence.” She emphasized the unique role of Hindi literature in shaping individuals into morally sound beings, contrasting it with other subjects that merely provide information. Her focus on integrating traditional knowledge with modern technology was particularly insightful.
  2. Ramnaresh Ram: Assistant Professor, Deen Dayal Upadhyay University

    Dr. Ramnaresh Ram addressed the misconception that Hindi is solely a Hindu language. He urged the audience to work towards dispelling such notions and emphasized the need for collective efforts in uplifting Hindi as a language that transcends religious boundaries.

  3.  Anish Kumar: Assistant Professor, Guru Ghasidaas University, Bilaspur

    Dr. Anish Kumar shed light on the global popularity of Hindi and advocated for its promotion worldwide. He called for a shift in the current educational focus, suggesting that while English is promoted in schools, equal encouragement should be given to the Hindi language.

  4. Pradeep Kumar Gautam, Assistant Professor, Government College, Sehrai, Ashoknagar

    He expressed optimism about Hindi’s future. He remarked, “I do not see the day far when Hindi will get a special place in the literary world due to its glory.”

  5.  Shobha Raturi, Assistant Professor, Swami Vivekananda Subharti University,

    She brought an international dimension, sharing her experiences as a Subharti university representative in an international seminar at the University of Kelaniya, Colombo, Sri Lanka. On the auspicious occasion of World Hindi Day, she expressed her belief that the coming time belongs to Hindi, and events like these enhance linguistic coordination.

Global Recognition from Sri Lankan Speakers:

The event reached new heights of international acclaim when speakers from Sri Lanka shared their perspectives. Prof. Laxman Sete Virat, Assistant Professor at the University of Kelaniya, Colombo, Mrs. Subha Ratnayak, Hindi Counsellor at the University of Kelaniya, Colombo, and Dr. Mukesh Mishra, Professor and Convener of the World Hindi Day International Seminar in Colombo, collectively emphasized the global expansion of Hindi. They highlighted that large groups of Hindi speakers outside India have settled in countries like Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Trinidad, and more, attesting to the widespread influence and significance of the language on a global scale.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by (Prof.) Dr. Rajeshwar Pal. His appreciation extended to all dignitaries, speakers, participants, and the organizing committee for making this celebration a resounding success.

The success of the World Hindi Day celebrations on January 10, 2024, was attributed to the meticulous organization led by Prof. (Dr) Tushti Sharma, with special support from Prof. (Dr) Rajeshwar Pal, Dr. Ashish Kumar, and Dr. Pooja Gupta. Dr. Ashish Kumar’s dynamic coordination not only ensured the event’s smooth execution but also added a delightful charm to the program.

In conclusion, the Hindi Diwas webinar was a resounding success, providing a platform for esteemed speakers to share their insights on the significance of Hindi in today’s world. The diverse perspectives offered during the event underscored the need for collective efforts in promoting, preserving, and celebrating the richness of the Hindi language.
