Subharti Law College Organized
Session on Bharatiya Bhasha Abhiyan
on the occasion of International Mother Tongue Day Pakhwada
The Literary Club, under the aegis of Sardar Patel Institute of Law, Subharti University, organized an Awareness Session as part of the Bharatiya Bhasha Abhiyan on the theme “There is No Alternative to Mother, Motherland and Mother Tongue.” The programme focused on the significant theme: “Role of Indian Languages in Legal Education and the Justice Delivery System.” The programme was successfully organized by the dedicated members of the Literary Club — Aditya Pundir, Om Thakur, Shristi Sirohi, Sana Shree, and Chetan Anand — under the guidance of the Club Facilitator, Miss Muskan Srivastava.
The session was graced by eminent academicians and dignitaries. The Key Speaker, Prof. (Mrs.) Alok Sharma, Professor, Faculty of Law, Delhi University, delivered an insightful address emphasizing the need to make justice accessible in the language of the people. She referred to the historical example of Bangladesh, where the language movement became a defining moment in asserting cultural and national identity, demonstrating how deeply language is connected with dignity and sovereignty. Prof. Sharma also spoke about the continued dominance of English in many countries, including India, and observed that excessive dependence on a foreign language in legal and academic domains often creates barriers rather than bridges.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Chandra, Director, and Prof. (Dr.) Reena Bishnoi, Officiating Dean, Faculty of Law. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp before Goddess Maa Saraswati, followed by a formal welcome address.
The other Speaker, Shri Raghvendra Shukla, Regional Coordinator, Bharatiya Bhasha Abhiyan (North India), in his address, highlighted the historical and contemporary relevance of linguistic awareness movements. He explained the significance of 21st February, which has been declared as International Mother Language Day by UNESCO. He further connected this global observance with India’s own linguistic initiatives, mentioning the celebration of International Mother Tongue Day Pakhwada, which promotes the use of Hindi in official and academic domains. He emphasized that such observances are not merely ceremonial but serve as reminders of our constitutional responsibility to respect and promote Indian languages.
Adv. Bhavesh Beniwal District and Session Court Meerut also addressed the gathering and elaborated on the importance of Hindi for legal professionals. He emphasized that proficiency in Hindi and other Indian languages empowers lawyers to communicate effectively with clients, draft pleadings with clarity, and bridge the gap between the judiciary and the common citizen.
The programme concluded with an address by Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, Dean, Research and Development Cell, who eloquently spoke about the profound importance of language in today’s global and national context. Highlighting its relevance in the field of legal education and justice delivery, he observed that accessibility of law in one’s mother tongue strengthens democratic participation and ensures that justice is truly inclusive. Concluding his address, he expressed sincere gratitude to the distinguished speakers, faculty members, organizers, and students for their enthusiastic involvement and for contributing to the success of the programme. He then formally delivered the Vote of Thanks and brought the session to a gracious and inspiring close.
