Skill enhancement/ development activities by Department of Chemistry

A series of skill enhancement / development activities were organized by the Department of Chemistry at Keral Verma Subharti College of Science under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Renu Mavi on Laboratory Skill Enhancement. The first “Lab Safety Rule and Guidelines”. The lecture began with a quick overview of the importance of lab safety and regulations while performing the lab experiments.

The primary objective of this workshop is to ensure the safety of all students and staff working in the laboratory by teaching proper maintenance procedures for lab equipment. As ensuring the safety of everyone in laboratory is of paramount importance. Thus, activity was organized to make student familiar with safe laboratory practices. Dr. Preeti Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry had briefed about the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all the lab users. She described the storage of chemicals should be at designated areas by following proper labeling and segregation. The dispose of chemical waste must be in the designated containers. Also, there must be availability of first aid kit in the laboratory in case of injuries. She narrated that following these rules and regulations is not only for their safety but also for the safety of their colleagues and the success of their experiments.

Another activity on “Lab equipment maintenance” was also conducted. Dr Preeti Singh give an overview of lab equipments and their maintenance to the students and staff working in the laboratory. Students got familiar to develop essential skills related to the maintenance and care of laboratory equipment, which are valuable for their academic and future professional endeavors. Also, they will understand that well-maintained equipment operates efficiently and contributing to accurate experimental results.

Further, activity was on “How to find the Research gap in Research” by Dr. Abida, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry. She briefed about steps involved in finding the research gaps. Further, another workshop on “Research Proposals” was organized by Dr Abida. All Students were got aware to understand, develop better research planning skills, set research objectives and questions.
