National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell Swami Vivekanand Subharti University organized a special lecture on “Cyber-Security Awareness” under the 100-day initiative program. The chief guest of this important program was Ashok Kumar, IPS (Retd.), Vice Chancellor of Sports University Haryana and former DGP, Uttarakhand.
In his address, Ashok Kumar said that cyber security is a very sensitive issue today. At this time when all our personal data is on the Internet, we need to be extra cautious to avoid cyber crime. Speaking in the lecture, Kumar said that in the time of advancing and developing technology every day, many new methods are being adopted by cyber criminals. He told the students, NSS volunteers and teachers present about cyber crimes in detail with many real examples from his police life.
Speaking further, Ashok Kumar discussed in detail the growing challenges of cyber security and the measures to deal with them. He emphasized on users to be alert and follow measures like strong passwords, two-step authentication and regular software updates to avoid cyber crimes.
Apart from this, he said that we also need to change the passwords of all our digital accounts from time to time. He advised that any incident of cyber fraud should be reported immediately in writing to the police.
Before this, the program was formally started by lighting a lamp in front of the statue of Maa Saraswati by Pro-VC of Subharti University Prof. (Dr.) Himanshu Aeran, Chief Guest and Speaker Ashok Kumar, Vice Chancellor Sports University of Haryana, Group Captain M Yakub, Registrar Subharti University, Prof. (Dr.) S.C. Thaledi, Program Coordinator NSS. During this, a soulful Saraswati Vandana was presented by the students of the Fine Arts Faculty.
At the beginning of the program, the guests were welcomed by the Program Coordinator of NSS Prof. (Dr.) S.C. Thaledi. He welcomed all the guests and students present and introduced everyone to the chief guest and speaker of the program Ashok Kumar, highlighting the importance of cyber security.
In his address, Dr. Thaledi said that the Government of India, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs has directed all the units of NSS to organize awareness programs on cyber-security at their own level. Because cyber criminals are keeping a vulture’s eye all around on us today to see where and how any person can get trapped in their trap.
At the end of the program, Ashok Kumar also went to the INA Shaheed Memorial and Kargil Shaheed Upvan located in the university campus along with the university officials and paid tribute to the martyrs. Along with this, he also visited the art gallery built by the Faculty of Fine Arts and praised it.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Major General (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal and Chief Executive Officer Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, in their message, gave their best wishes for the success of the program and said that cyber-security is the need of the hour and this is a commendable effort by the NSS cell of the university to spread awareness about it.
The program was hosted by Dr. Preeti Singh, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication Department. At the end of the programme, the vote of thanks was given by Ram Prakash Tiwari, coordinator of this lecture and Programme Officer of NSS Unit-1. Before this, the Pro-VC of the University, Professor (Dr) Himanshu Aeran and the Programme Coordinator of NSS, Professor (Dr) S.C. Thaledi alongwith Dr. A.P. Garg, Director research, SVSU honored the keynote speaker by presenting him with a shawl and a momento.
