A special lecture on the topic “Understanding POSH: Rights, Rules, and Redressal on Campus” was organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut. The primary objective of the session was to sensitize students and faculty members regarding their rights, the legal framework, and the grievance redressal mechanisms related to the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) at the workplace. The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Saumyata Pandey, an empaneled trainer and resource person for the Ministry of Women and Child Development’s SHe-Box portal. During her address, she provided an in-depth explanation of the key sections of the POSH Act, the responsibilities of institutions, and the step-by-step process for filing a formal complaint.

Dr. Saumyata Pandey emphasized that the POSH law is not just a tool for the protection of women, but a vital step toward ensuring a safe and dignified professional and academic environment. She stressed that every student and employee must be aware of both their rights and their responsibilities to facilitate effective action against any form of harassment. Furthermore, she explained the functioning of the SHe-Box portal, highlighting how the platform assists in the swift and transparent resolution of grievances, and underlined the crucial role played by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) within institutions.

The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Ram Prakash Tiwari, Assistant Professor of the department. The lecture saw active participation from faculty members, including Prof. Ashok Tyagi, Dr. Santosh K. Gautam, Dr. Ashutosh Verma, Dr. Preeti Singh, Ram Prakash Tiwari, and Tarun Jain, alongside a large number of students who engaged in a Q&A session to clarify their doubts. This initiative proved to be a significant step toward fostering awareness and building a safer campus environment.
