Special Program on the 300th Birth Anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar
The Department of Fine Arts at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, celebrated the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar with artistic creativity and expression. A special event was organized on this occasion, featuring a painting competition where students of the Fine Arts department showcased a grand depiction of various art forms. The event served as a platform to highlight the power of artistic expression and brought forth the diverse talents of both students and faculty.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Shalya Raj, CEO, Subharti University, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, and the Head of the Department.
In their address, Dr. Shalya Raj and the Vice-Chancellor highlighted how India’s history has been shaped by several courageous women, among whom Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Malwa holds a special place. She is still remembered as an ideal administrator, a just ruler, and a devout woman. Professor (Dr.) Pintu Mishra, Principal, added grace to the event with his presence and emphasized the vital role of art in education and society. In his address, he stated that art is not merely a reflection of culture but also a medium for transformation, peace, and dialogue something that needs to be recognized and encouraged, especially among young artists.
A major highlight of the event was the exhibition of student artworks, which included paintings, sculptures, mixed media, and digital art all centered around the theme of “Art for Peace and Stability.” The students’ artistic works were highly appreciated.
Dr. Pooja Gupta, Head of the Department, stated that art reminds us of the power of imagination and the importance of creative thinking in today’s world. Dr. Vandana Tomar, Academic Coordinator of the Fine Arts Department, expressed pride in the students’ efforts and noted that art is a universal language that speaks across cultures and communities. The program was hosted by Mr. Krishna Kumar, who remarked that art allows us to connect beyond boundaries.
All students of the department, including Prakhar, Kirtika, Lavi, Rohit, Chirag, and others, participated actively in the program, with the presence of faculty members. Everyone was inspired by the students’ works. The contributions of Ahilyabai Holkar, who established a women’s army under her leadership to strengthen her state, were also highlighted. She gave women their rightful place in society and made efforts to promote girls’ education.
