Speech Competition by NSS

National Service Scheme Cell of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut organized a speech competition on the topic of Self-reliant India under the Seva Pakhwada campaign of Uttar Pradesh Government following the guidelines of Higher Education Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Students of all faculties of the university participated enthusiastically in this competition. This program was organized in the auditorium of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of the University under the joint auspices of NSS Cell and Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The program was traditionally started with the lighting of lamps by the guests.

In his presidential address, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and NSS Program Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) Subhash Chandra Thaledi said that today the youth need to become self-reliant and this will be possible only when you have the spirit of self-reliance and service within you. Only by walking on the path of self-reliance will you be able to achieve the goal of self-reliance. The aim of NSS is that the youth should not only be educated but also be important partners in the development of the nation. The aim of this competition organized on the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri is that you should learn from the lives of these two great personalities and become a partner in taking your country forward.

In the speech competition, Ankita Singh, a student of fifth year of Law Faculty, stood first, while Nandini Dixit, a student of B.Tech Food Technology, stood second. Luv Kumar, a second year BPT, stood third. Apart from these, Varsha Raj, Nitesh Kumar Tiwari, Khushi Rathi and Suchita Tripathi were selected for the appreciation Award.

Addressing the students and NSS volunteers present during this time, Prof. (Dr.) Anoj Raj, a member of the jury of the competition, said that today we talk about self-reliance, if we look at history, we find that our country was self-reliant ages ago, but in some period in between when we were bound in the shackles of slavery, we became dependent from self-reliance. Today, if we want to become self-reliant again, then first of all we have to stop the brain drain happening in large numbers in the country. For this, it is necessary that we create such an environment in our country that the youth getting educated here today should not go abroad for jobs but move forward for self-employment here in our country because only when the youth is self-reliant, India will become self-reliant.

Speaking in the same sequence, Prof. (Dr.) Lubhan Singh said that self-reliance can come only when we increase the interest of youth in the field of research in the country. Today, if any country is in the category of developed nation, then it is only because research and innovative ideas are promoted there. This work should be done at both the government and society level. Further in his address, he said that today research and self-employment are being promoted at the government level. This shows that India is again moving towards self-reliance, and the coming era will be the era of India.

This competition was conducted by Palak Tandon, a student of BAJMC 3rd year, while the guests were welcomed and thanked by Assistant Professor of Journalism Department and Program Officer of NSS Unit-1, Ram Prakash Tiwari.

The jury in this competition included Prof. Anoj Raj, Prof. Lubhan Singh and Ms. Almash Saifi. Assistant Professor Shelly Sharma of Journalism Department played the role of co-coordinator of the program, while the technical coordination was done by Assistant Professor Shikeb Majeed. During this time, students from various departments were also present as listeners.
