Report on the Workshop “Andher Nagri: Vimarsh”

The Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, successfully organized a literary workshop titled Andher Nagri: Vimarsh on 14 November 2025 at 12:00 PM in the HR Lab, 3rd Floor, Management College.

The workshop featured distinguished dignitaries from the Abhivyakti Srijan FoundationMrs. Sangeeta Jain, Mrs. Tripti Mittal, and Mrs. Ritu who shared insightful perspectives on Andher Nagri, the renowned play by Bhartendu Harishchandra. The session focused on the enduring relevance of the play in contemporary society, particularly its critique of governance, moral responsibility, and socio-political dynamics.

The guests were felicitated with angavastra by Dr. Seema Sharma, Head, Department of Languages. The workshop was attended by faculty members including Dr. Rafat Khanam, Dr. Manisha Luthra, Dr. Ranveer Singh, Dr. Ashish Kumar, Dr. Nishi Raghav, Dr. Preeti Sharma, Mr. Abhijeet Sharma, Ms. Soni Chauhan, and Ms. Bhavana Joshi.

A Vote of Thanks was presented by Dr. Seema Sharma, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to the invited guests. The event provided an enriching academic platform for students, encouraging critical engagement with classical Hindi literature and fostering meaningful dialogue on its contemporary implications.

Objectives of the Workshop

  1. To enhance students’ understanding of Bhartendu Harishchandra’s play Andher Nagri and its literary, cultural, and historical significance.
  2. To critically explore the socio-political themes presented in the play, including governance, morality, and societal responsibility.
  3. To encourage analytical thinking by connecting the play’s satire with contemporary social and political issues.
  4. To develop students’ interpretative and communication skills through interactive discussion and reflective engagement.
  5. To foster appreciation for classical Hindi literature and promote deeper involvement in literary discourse and cultural studies.
