Workshop on “Protecting IPR and IP Management for Start-ups” Successfully Conducted at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University
The Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), SVSU, organized an insightful workshop on “Protecting IPR and IP Management for Start-ups” on 25 May 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the HR Lab, Department of Languages. The resource person for the session was Dr. Sudha Rani, Professor & Head, Department of Hindi, Shaheed Mangal Pandey Govt. Girls P.G. College, Meerut. The program was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Seema Sharma, Head, Department of Languages.
Program
Dr. Seema Sharma welcomed the resource person and participants, highlighting the importance of IP literacy for students and young entrepreneurs. Dr. Sudha Rani then delivered the keynote session covering the fundamentals of Intellectual Property Rights and their strategic importance for start-ups.
The program covered:
- Types of IPR: Patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets with examples for student innovators
- IP Management: Practical steps for documentation, cost-effective filing procedures, and IP protection
- Commercialization: Strategies to leverage IP assets for licensing and funding opportunities
- Case Studies: Common IP mistakes made by start-ups and preventive measures
The workshop aligned with UN SDG 4: Quality Education and UN SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
Outcomes
1-Enhanced IP Awareness: Students, research scholars, and faculty gained clarity on IP creation, protection, and monetization relevant to entrepreneurial ventures.
2-Practical Exposure: Participants learned cost-effective IP filing methods and documentation practices suitable for early-stage start-ups.
3-Interactive Learning: The Q&A session addressed specific queries on patent filing for academic projects, copyright for digital content, and trademark registration.
4-Innovation Culture: The event strengthened IIC SVSU’s mission to foster innovation and entrepreneurship across departments. The Department of Languages, led by Dr. Seema Sharma, expressed gratitude to Dr. Sudha Rani for her expert guidance and to IIC, SVSU for their collaborative support.
5-Departmental Achievement- Three copyrights from the department of Languages have been successfully published in IPR, showcasing the department’s commitment to research output and innovation.
Conclusion
Faculty members present on the occasion included Dr. Rafat Khanam, Dr. Manisha Luthra, Dr. Nishi Raghav, Dr. Yeshpal, Dr. Swati Sharma, Dr. Ashish Kumar, Mr. Ankit Kumar, Dr. Preeti Sharma, Ms. Prajna, Dr. Akanksha Singh, Ms. Bhavana Joshi, and Ms. Soni Chauhan. The programme concluded with group photographs and valuable insights shared by the faculty members on nurturing an IP-aware academic environment. The event reflected the Department of Languages’ commitment to promoting innovation, research integrity, and entrepreneurial thinking among students. The Department, led by Dr. Seema Sharma, expressed gratitude to Dr. Sudha Rani for her expert guidance and to IIC, SVSU for their collaborative support in strengthening the IP ecosystem on campus.
