Workshop on Self-defense Training for Girls

 Swami Vivekanand Subharti University organized a training session workshop on self-defense training for girls on empowerment through defense on 06 September 2024 under the joint aegis of the Department of Physical Education and University Women Empowerment Committee. On this occasion, Professor Dr. Rajeev Chaudhary, Department of Physical Education, Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, Chhattisgarh was present as the Chief Guest and Expert. Before starting the workshop, the Chief Guest and Expert Professor Dr. Rajeev Chaudhary was welcomed by Professor Dr. Anjali Khare, President, University Women Empowerment Committee, Department of Pathology, Subharti Medical College, Dr. Anoj Raj, Acting Dean, Faculty of Education and Dr. Pintu Mishra, Faculty Chairman, Faculty of Fine Arts, Dr. Manju Adhikari, acting Head, Department of Physical Education by presenting a plan. The workshop was inaugurated by the Chief Guest by lighting a lamp with the worship of Mother Saraswati. The program was started by Dr. Mohd. Salim Javed. The Chief Guest said that this subject is not only relevant but is also the utmost need of today’s society. It is important to make women aware of any kind of crime for the safety of their lives. He said that in today’s era, women’s safety is a serious issue. The development of society depends on the development of both women and men. Increasing crimes against women destroy this balance and this is why the concept of women empowerment has developed. Girls should learn self-defense by adopting different strategies in different situations so that they can protect themselves in adverse circumstances. This confluence of law and self-defense is a unique effort in itself. In this workshop, the chief guest Dr. Rajiv Chaudhary taught various skills of self-defense to the girls of different departments of the university so that they can protect themselves in any adverse situation. During this workshop, the students practiced various self-defense techniques and methods. The objective of this workshop was to teach girls modern and effective methods of self-defense so that they can become self-reliant and self-protected. The chief guest said that this type of training increases self-confidence in girls and they can protect themselves from any danger. Dr. Anjali Khare, chairperson University Women Empowerment Committee also explain about the theme of training session and motivate to all girls for participate self defense training enthusiastically Acting Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. (Dr.) Anoj Raj said that our aim is to teach every girl the basics of self-defense. This training will not only make them physically strong, but also mentally empower them. During this entire workshop, students from various departments participated and learned various aspects of self-defense. All the participants appreciated the program and said that they have gained important knowledge for self-defense. Co-convener of the program, Dr. Manju Adhikari said that this initiative is an important step towards ensuring the safety of women and girls in the society and more programs will be organized in the direction of self-defense in future. To make this workshop successful, full support and encouragement was also received from the Chief Executive Officer of the University, Dr. Shalya Raj and Vice Chancellor of the University, Major General Dr. G.K. Thapliyal.

During this workshop, Dr. Anjali Khare, Chairperson of the University Women Empowerment Committee, along with other members of the committee, Dr. Anshul, Dental College and Dr. Manju Adhikari, Physical Education was present. Teachers and students from all faculties of the university participated enthusiastically in the self-defense program. Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dr. Deepak Raghav, Dr. Atul Tiwari, Dr. Salim Javed, Dr. Ankit Singh Jadoun, Mr. Kapil Shakya etc. were present from the Physical Education Department. Dr. Anoj Raj, Dr. Sangeeta, Dr. Ragini Srivastava, Dr. Rupam Jain, Dr. Shalini Tiwari, Mrs. Rishu Rani, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Mr. Rahul Kumar etc. were present from the Education Department. At the end of the program, the program coordinator Dr. Manju Adhikari thanked the participants from all departments of the university and the deans of all faculties, media in-charge and all non-teaching staff on behalf of the Women Empowerment Committee and promised the students to organize such programs at a higher level in the future.
