 World Day of the Handicapped

On the Occasion of World Day of the Handicapped, a thought-provoking and interactive program was organized on Tuesday, 3rd December 2024 at the Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Department of Home Science. The event aimed to raise awareness about disabilities and promote inclusion and support for differently-abled individuals. The program was coordinated by Dr. Shruti Pokhriyal (Awareness Generation Talk Session) and Ms. Urvashi Sharma (Poster Making Competition), with active support and cooperation from HOD Dr. Nishma Singh and co-faculty members.  

The event commenced with an introductory address by Ms. Urvashi Sharma, who highlighted the significance of World Day of the Handicapped. She emphasized the need for greater understanding and compassion toward the disabled community and set the tone for the day’s activities. Following this, students enthusiastically participated in a poster-making session on theme: Rights and Laws for Specially Abled Individuals, creatively expressing their ideas on themes related to disability awareness and inclusion.

The second part of the program featured an Awareness Generation Talk Session conducted by Dr. Shruti Pokhriyal, who engaged the audience in a lively and informative discussion. Topics such as the definition of disability, various models of disability, and ways to support disabled individuals were thoroughly explored. Dr. Pokhriyal also elaborated on government initiatives designed to uplift and empower the disabled community, encouraging students to contribute to creating an inclusive society.

The event concluded with the judging of posters by HOD Dr. Nishma Singh, who praised the students’ creativity and understanding of the subject. The winners were announced and will be awarded certificates of appreciation. The program’s suc
