Literature Review Meeting Held at Swami Vivekanand Research Library

The Swami Vivekanand Chair organized a literature review meeting on 3rd December 2024 at the Swami Vivekanand Research Library. The event was chaired by Professor (Dr.) Sudheer Tyagi, Head of the Library Department, who visited the Chair’s office to oversee the proceedings.

The meeting commenced with a floral tribute to Swami Vivekananda, symbolizing respect and gratitude for his teachings and contributions. The Convener of the Chair formally welcomed the distinguished guests and provided a brief introduction to the Chair’s objectives, emphasizing its repository of rich literature based on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda.

In his address, Dr. Sudheer Tyagi highlighted the vital role of the library in fostering a conducive environment for students. He noted that a reserved, peaceful space like the Swami Vivekanand Research Library offers students an opportunity to study at their own pace, engage in reflective learning, and access resources that facilitate both academic and personal growth. Dr. Tyagi elaborated on the multifaceted benefits of such spaces, including:

  • Promoting self-study and academic excellence.
  • Providing privacy and quietude for activities like reading, artistic pursuits, and listening to educational content.
  • Offering a supportive environment for tutoring and collaborative study groups, which can improve grades and enhance self-study skills.

Dr. Tyagi reinforced the importance of libraries in shaping well-rounded individuals and quoted Swami Vivekananda:

“We want that education, by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, intellect is expanded and by which one can stand on one’s own feet.”

Dr. Monika Mehrotra, in her remarks, announced the Chair’s upcoming initiative to establish a book bank system. This system will provide free books related to Swami Vivekananda’s life and teachings, ensuring greater access to his wisdom and philosophy.

Dr. Durvesh Rana, Assistant Professor of History and a special invitee, spoke about Swami Vivekananda’s academic life, describing him as an exemplary student with a voracious appetite for knowledge. He noted that Vivekananda’s interests spanned diverse fields, including philosophy, science, history, religion, and literature. His profound engagement with texts like the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Upanishads, and Vedas reflected his intellectual curiosity and depth of understanding.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Monika Mehrotra, who expressed gratitude to all participants for their valuable contributions and insights.

The event was a resounding success, reaffirming the Chair’s commitment to promoting Swami Vivekananda’s ideals and fostering academic excellence through thoughtful initiatives
