With the aim of promoting environmental awareness and action, the University Environment Committee organized a series of impactful activities on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, based on the global theme “Ending Plastic Pollution.”

The main objective of the celebration was to sensitize students, faculty, and staff about the environmental conservation and harmful effects of plastic on ecosystems and to inspire actionable steps toward a sustainable future. The event witnessed active participation of more than 250 individuals, making it a successful and inclusive initiative.

The day began with a serene gathering at Garud Udyan from 08:30 AM to 09:00 AM, where the Chief Guest Vice-Chancellor of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University is Maj. Gen. (Dr.) G. K. Thapliyal, SM (Retd.)  was warmly welcomed, and the significance of World Environment Day was introduced. This was followed by a symbolic and moving bird uncaging , representing freedom for nature and the shared responsibility of protecting biodiversity during the event.

The event continued at Guru Tegh Bahadur Auditorium from 09:00 AM onwords , beginning with the welcome of the Chief Guest with saplings by Chairman University Environment Committee, promoting the message of greenery and plant adoption. The event featured a water conservation activity titled जल कुंभ भरन, reinforcing the importance of preserving water and mother earth. An annual report was presented by the Chairman of the Environmental Committee Dr.Mukesh Ruhela, outlining the committee’s year-round sustainability efforts. A compelling Nukkad Natak (street play) was performed by students of Dental College, Engineering College and naturopathy College, creatively highlighting the impact of plastic pollution and Harit yoga. This was followed by poetry and speeches delivered by students, expressing heartfelt messages on environmental preservation.

At 10:15 AM, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor addressed the audience, applauding the university’s green initiatives and encouraging the community to be environmentally responsible. This was followed by the oath for environmental protection. A notable highlight of the program was the “Plant Adoption Activity”, under the title “A University Initiativity,” where faculty and students adopted plants, reinforcing their personal commitment to environmental care. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Member Secretary of the University Environment Committee Dr. Sanchit Pradhan, acknowledging the efforts of all participants and contributors. Lastly, a poster and model exhibition showcasing creative student innovations on environmental themes was inaugurated and received with great enthusiasm.

The program was thoughtfully organized by the members of the University Environment Committee, including Dr. Sweta Bhardwaj, Dr. K.K. Sharma, Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Jyoti Madhur, Dr. Gaurab Sharma, and Dr. Sanchit Pradhan Member Secretary and Dr. Mukesh Ruhela, Chairman, Environment Committee. The event was further strengthened by the active involvement of Dr. Munish Reddy, Dean Student Welfare, along with faculty members, staff, and students  across various departments. The presence of several Deans and Directors added great value and encouragement to the event. The collective efforts of all stakeholders contributed immensely to the grand success of the program, reflecting the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.
