World Radio Celebration 2024
Webinar organized in Swami Vivekanand Subharti University on World Radio Day
For a century, radio has played a vital role in informing, entertaining and educating people. – Steve Ahern
An international webinar was organized on the occasion of World Radio Day-2024 in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut. In which senior Radio Broadcasters from Australia and London interacted with the students of Journalism & Mass Communication and shared their experiences and expressed their views on the importance of radio. In this programme famous radio personalities like former senior radio broadcaster of BBC London Lalit Mohan Joshi, international radio broadcaster and trainer from Australia Steve Ahern and Meenu Khare Station Director All India Radio Lucknow participated.
Australia’s renowned radio broadcaster Steve Ahern said in his address that Radio is positioned as a main link connecting the modern and the past. Radio is an important medium to provide education, information and entertainment to the entire humanity. Radio has played an effective role in taking development to the common people. Even in the digital age, radio remains contemporary with its technological developments and is still popular among its listeners.
He further said that today also the radio has been serving as a means of sending messages and communication since 101 years ago. Through radio signals we can easily convey our message to people even in remote areas. Along with this, radio is positioned as an easy medium of access to different countries, human communities and cultures of the world.
Former BBC London radio broadcaster Lalit Mohan Joshi said that radio is the foundation of mass communication and its importance will remain for ages. He said that radio teaches us a discipline in how much we have to convey in less words. Describing his experiences related to BBC, Joshi said that even today radio is the most listened to and most popular mass media in Britain. Radio has a universal reach and is available to listeners everywhere. He said that radio is a medium to connect the common man with development.
Meanwhile, Akashvani Lucknow Station Director Meenu Khare said in her address that even today radio remains a medium for the listeners to acquire knowledge by giving them healthy entertainment as well as correct information. Through this, we can bring developmental changes in people’s lives by broadcasting useful information. Describing one of her experiences, Meenu said that radio is still a medium of public service and serves in adverse circumstances through its programmes. Pointing out the importance of All India Radio, she said that radio is no less than a boon for people at the time of disaster. She encouraged the students and said that they should join Akashvani programs and shape their future.
On this occasion, Professor Subhash Chandra Thaledi, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, explained the usefulness of radio in today’s life and informed the students about its technical development. He said that radio is a living medium which provides right information and entertainment at the right time. Through radio, the art of depiction through words also develops in the listener. Throwing light on the development journey of radio, he said that FM radio and community radio have become very popular in our country. This medium will always remain alive.

Apart from these, Manisha, Suman Kumar, Aman Sharma, Garima Pandey, Anjali, Apoorva, Tina Som, Sugandhi, Vansh Chaudhary, Anushka Solanki, Chenna Tyagi, Monu Kumar, Shakib, Arpit, Harshit, Sumaiya, Bhumi Arya, Anand, Nitesh etc. were present.
