“3R Club” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)

The Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Department of Home Science at Swami Vivekanad Subharti University (SVSU) successfully conducted an engaging and creative workshop for its students under the banner of the “3R Club” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Department of Home Science, SVSU, Organizes Workshop on Fabric (Jute) bags Reuse under “3R Club” initiative for their students on 1st May 2025. The workshop focused on reusing fabric (jute) bags and transforming them into beautiful, personalized accessories through the application of embroidery, beadwork, sequins, stones, and other decorative materials. The initiative aimed to foster sustainability, creativity, and skill development among students while promoting environmentally conscious practices. Participants enthusiastically designed and embellished old jute bags, giving them a fresh and fashionable appeal. The event not only encouraged the reuse of materials but also allowed students to explore innovative techniques in textile decoration and upcycling. The head of the department Dr. Nishma Singh highlighted the importance of such workshops in building practical skills and environmental awareness, aligning with the university’s broader mission of skill-based education. 3R Club Facilitator Ms. Swati Sharma, guided the students throughout the process, providing demonstrations of various decorative techniques and sharing tips on material selection and design aesthetics. The workshop provided an excellent platform for students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting while developing their artistic abilities and craftsmanship. 3 R Club President: Ms. PriyanshiVice-President: Vidhi Punia, Secretary: Harshita Khurana, Treasurer: Deepika and Event Coordinator: Shalini Chaudhry actively participated in the workshop and assisted other students.  Faculty members as Dr. Shalu Nehra, Ms. Swati Sharma, Ms. Urvashi Sharma and Ms. Rupanshi Garg applauded the students’ creativity and commitment to sustainability. The event concluded with an exhibition of the transformed bags, inspiring both students and faculty to adopt more sustainable habits in daily life. The workshop aimed to promote sustainable practices by encouraging students to reuse fabric (jute) bags and transform them into aesthetically appealing and functional products. In this hands-on session, students learned how to revamp plain or used jute bags by incorporating embroidery, beadwork, sequins, stones, patchwork, fabric painting, and other decorative accessories. The initiative not only cultivated creativity but also emphasized the importance of upcycling and waste reduction in the fashion and textile industries.
