Department of Physical Education Organizes Guest Lecture on “Physical Literacy and Life Long Fitness”

The Department of Physical Education, Faculty of Education, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University successfully organized a Guest Lecture on “Physical Literacy and Life Long Fitness” on 13 May 2026 at the Seminar Hall, Faculty of Education. The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness among students regarding the importance of physical literacy, active lifestyles, and lifelong fitness practices for maintaining holistic health and well-being.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Manju Adhikari, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Physical Education, who felicitated the distinguished Resource Person, Dr. Awadhesh Shukla, Assistant Professor, Lucknow University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, by presenting a ceremonial shawl (Padtka) and a sapling as a token of respect and gratitude. Faculty members and students enthusiastically attended the programme and actively participated throughout the session.

During the lecture, Dr. Awadhesh Shukla delivered an insightful presentation focusing on the concept of physical literacy and its significance in promoting lifelong participation in physical activities, fitness, and wellness-oriented lifestyles. The resource person explained that physical literacy is not limited to sports participation alone but also includes movement competence, confidence, motivation, and knowledge required to remain physically active throughout life.

The session highlighted the importance of regular physical activity in preventing lifestyle-related diseases, improving mental health, enhancing social well-being, and maintaining overall fitness. The speaker discussed various aspects of lifelong fitness including exercise habits, recreational activities, healthy routines, physical activity participation, and wellness-oriented behavior essential for sustaining physical and mental health.

Dr. Awadhesh Shukla also emphasized the role of physical education in developing healthy citizens and creating awareness regarding active lifestyles among youth. Various practical examples and interactive discussions helped students understand the importance of integrating physical activity into daily life for long-term health benefits.

Students actively participated in the lecture and interacted with the resource person through questions and discussions related to fitness awareness, lifestyle management, physical inactivity, and wellness education. The session created a highly engaging and motivational learning atmosphere for all participants.
