Climate Change: Nature’s Warning against Human Greed

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, in collaboration with the Department of Home Science and in association with the University Environment Committee, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, organized a Panel Discussion on the theme “Climate Change: Nature’s Warning Against Human Greed” on 29 May 2026.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial presentation of a sapling to the distinguished guest, symbolizing the commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable living.

Welcoming the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Ritesh Chaudhary, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, greeted the guest and participants and shared his views on the significance of environmental awareness. He highlighted the urgent need for collective efforts to address climate change and emphasized the role of education and communication in promoting environmental responsibility.

Prof. (Dr.) Mukesh Ruhela, Chairman, University Environment Committee, addressed the audience on the growing concerns of global warming and its adverse impact on the planet. He encouraged everyone to actively participate in plantation drives and contribute towards creating a greener and healthier environment.

Sharing practical suggestions for environmental conservation, Prof. (Dr.) Jyoti Gaur, Head, Department of Home Science, emphasized the importance of responsible waste management. She advised participants not to separate the plastic wrappers from milk packets and shampoo sachets before disposal, as proper segregation and recycling practices can help reduce environmental damage.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Peyush Goyal, Emeritus Scientist, Regional Science Centre, Dehradun, delivered an insightful address on global environmental challenges. He cited examples from various countries that have successfully implemented sustainable practices to protect natural resources and reduce pollution. Dr. Goyal highlighted the importance of plantation activities and encouraged everyone to begin environmental conservation efforts at an individual level. He advocated the use of biodegradable and bio plastic alternatives and advised participants to carry reusable water bottles and cloth bags while shopping to minimize plastic consumption.

The session was highly interactive and informative, inspiring participants to adopt environmentally responsible habits in their daily lives. The programme was effectively moderated by Dr. Preeti Singh, who administered an environmental pledge to all participants. The audience pledged to become environmentally conscious citizens, plant more trees, and reduce the use of plastic in their everyday lives.

The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Nishima Singh, Associate Professor, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished guest, faculty members, organizers, and participants for making the event successful.

Faculty members from various departments of the University attended the programme and actively participated in the discussion, making it a meaningful and impactful initiative toward environmental awareness and sustainable development.
