A Yoga Workshop on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” was successfully organized at the Meerut District Jail from 17th June to 21st June 2026 as part of the celebrations of International Day of Yoga 2026.
The workshop was organized by the Maharishi Aurobindo Subharti College and Hospital of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences (MASCHNYS), Swami Vivekanand Subharti University. The sessions were led by Dr. Alok Sharma, Professor, and Dr. Abhijith K. B., Assistant Professor, who guided participants through various yogic practices focusing on physical fitness, mental well-being, and healthy ageing.
A total of 50 participants from the district jail actively took part in the workshop, demonstrating enthusiasm and dedication throughout the programme. The sessions emphasized the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life to enhance overall health and improve quality of life, especially in the context of ageing.
Notably, a positive behavioural transformation was observed among the inmates during the course of the workshop. Many participants appeared calmer, more composed, and happier after engaging in the regular yoga sessions. Some inmates also reported that their aggressive tendencies had reduced to a certain extent, highlighting the therapeutic and rehabilitative benefits of yoga practices.
The initiative was well-received and successfully contributed to spreading awareness about the benefits of yoga while fostering emotional balance and mental well-being among the participants.
