Inauguration of Refresher Course on ‘Contemporary Developments, Emerging Challenges, and Multidisciplinary Approaches in the Legal Field’ at Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law

A refresher course titled ‘Contemporary Developments, Emerging Challenges, and Multidisciplinary Approaches in the Legal Field’ was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp in a dignified atmosphere at the Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut. The course was conducted under the direction of Hon’ble Rajesh Chandra, Director, Subharti Law College (Former Justice, Allahabad High Court, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh), and the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Reena Bishnoi, Dean, Subharti Law College. The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Reena Bishnoi, Officiating Dean, Faculty of Law, who welcomed all the participants. Shedding light on the objective of the refresher course, she remarked that such academic programs serve as a vital medium for enhancing the knowledge of teachers and legal experts, while also familiarizing them with the latest concepts within the judicial system. Subsequently, Prof. Tarak Nath Prasad, Professor at the Faculty of Law, provided a detailed overview of the core subject matter of the refresher course. Highlighting the roles and functioning of various types of courts within the judicial system, he explained that each court holds its own distinct significance. The concepts of ‘Khaki Courts’ and ‘Black Courts’ and their practical significance were explained in a simple and engaging manner, followed by a detailed discussion on their utility within the judicial system. Citing examples, the speaker noted that while pigeons were once used to exchange messages, today, messages can be sent to any corner of the world in mere moments via email, WhatsApp, and other digital mediums. Similarly, the law constantly evolves in step with changing technology and social conditions to effectively address the new needs and challenges of society.

The event’s keynote speaker and Honorary Director, Justice Rajesh Chandra (former Judge, Allahabad High Court), shared his insights on the “distinctiveness of the teaching profession” in his inspiring address. He remarked that the legal profession is not merely a job but a powerful medium for upholding justice, morality, and constitutional values in society. He called upon advocates and law teachers to discharge their responsibilities with integrity and sensitivity.

At the conclusion of the event, Prof. (Dr.) Prem Chandra from the Faculty of Law delivered the vote of thanks. On this occasion, he highlighted the primary reasons for the pendency of cases in courts, such as the rising number of lawsuits, a shortage of judges, frequent adjournments, procedural delays, and resource constraints. He stated that continuous improvement in the judicial system and the effective use of modern technology are essential to address these challenges.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Afreen Almas, Assistant Professor (Law), under whose able coordination the program was successfully organized. Faculty members, research scholars, and participants from the Law Faculty participated in the event with great enthusiasm. The first day of the refresher course was enlightening, inspiring, and interactive.
