“All Indian languages are carriers of India’s rich culture” – Dr. Seema Sharma
The Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekananda Subharti University, Meerut, organized the “Indian Language Festival 2024” on December 11, 2024. The event focused on lectures, poetry recitations, dance, and musical performances based on the languages and dialects of various Indian states. This program was held on the birth anniversary of Tamil poet Subramania Bharati. The event’s Chief Guest was the university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. (Col) Devendra Swarup, and the Special Guest was Professor Pintu Mishra, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts. The guests were honored with the presentation of saplings.
The program began with students from the Department of Languages welcoming the guests in traditional attire representing different states at the entrance and escorting them to the auditorium. The event officially commenced with the lighting of the lamp in front of the image of Goddess Saraswati. Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Department of Languages, warmly welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of Indian languages. The guests shared their thoughts on the theme “Many Languages, One Emotion,” emphasizing that all Indian languages are the carriers of India’s rich culture.
Dr. (Col) Devendra Swarup, Vice-Chancellor of the university, spoke about the significance of Indian languages, stating that individuals proficient in multiple languages achieve greater intellectual, economic, and social development. He encouraged everyone to strive to learn as many languages as possible while fostering mutual harmony.
Professor Pintoo Mishra, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, praised the event, stating that just as fine arts enhance human life, the harmony of different languages strengthens India’s unity.
Colonel Rajesh Tyagi, Director of the Defense Academy, described the festival as an opportunity to experience the beauty of linguistic diversity and the spirit of unity within that diversity.
Professor Sudhir Tyagi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, commended the coordination of the event and extended his best wishes to the students and faculty while providing valuable insights into the unity and harmony of Indian languages.
Dr. S.C. Tiwari, Principal of the Polytechnic College, delivered a mesmerizing song that highlighted key philosophical aspects of life.
Dr. Pallavi Mukherjee from the Buddhist College emphasized the need to embrace the habit of learning different languages for holistic development. Dr. Rafat Khanam expressed the importance of languages through Urdu poetry.
The program began with a captivating Ganesh Vandana performed by Khushi Naib, Himanshi, Vasudha, and Jhalak. This was followed by a dance performance by Vidhi Chauhan, a Marathi poem by Kanishka, and Sundarkand shloka recitation by Shruti Sharma. Atul Kaushik and Puneet Goswami from the Liberal Arts College recited poems in Awadhi, leaving the audience spellbound.
Students and faculty from various departments, including the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Fine Arts, Polytechnic College, Faculty of Law, Pharmacy, Journalism, Education, and Liberal Arts, showcased their talents in Indian languages, contributing to the success of the program. The event was beautifully anchored by Shikha Sharma and Samia Siddiqui, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Professor Rajeshwar Pal.
The event’s success was attributed to the special efforts of Dr. Seema Sharma, Professor Rajeshwar Pal, Dr. Rafat Khanam, Dr. Ashish Kumar, Dr. Nishi Raghav, Dr. Manisha Luthra, Ms. Swati, Dr. Yashpal, Dr. Ranveer Singh, Dr. Anuj Bawara, Ankit, Dr. Bhavna Grover, Dr. Monika Mehrotra, Dr. Amrita Chaudhary, Dr. Ritu, Dr. Divya, Dr. Reena, Dr. Priya Bhardwaj, and others.
