The Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, successfully organized the BhartiyaBhashaUtsav 2025 on 11 December 2025. The event was held to commemorate the birth anniversary of the renowned nationalist poet, writer, and journalist MahakaviSubramaniaBharati. The celebration aimed to promote India’s linguistic plurality, cultural diversity, and creative expression. The program commenced with traditional cultural rituals, including the ceremonial Tilak to welcome guests, signatures by dignitaries in their native languages, lighting of lamps before MaaSaraswati, and the symbolic lighting of candles on the Map of India. These activities created an atmosphere filled with dignity, unity, and reverence for India’s multilingual heritage.
The event was graced by distinguished guests including Prof. DevendraSwaroop, Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. SudhirTyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Monika Mehrotra, Convenor, Swami Vivekanand Chair, and Prof. S. C. Tiwari, Principal, Polytechnic College. Head of the Department, Dr. Seema Sharma, welcomed the guests with planters and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university administration, judges, faculty members, students, non-teaching staff, and the technical team for their support in ensuring the smooth conduct of the event.
In his address, Prof. DevendraSwaroop highlighted that Indian languages are the cultural soul of the nation, and it is our responsibility to preserve and promote them. He encouraged students to embrace multilingualism and appreciated the efforts of the Department of Languages, emphasizing that such celebrations are vital for strengthening cultural unity. Prof. SudhirTyagi, in his remarks, stated that India’s rich literary and linguistic traditions are its true strength. He urged students to learn not only their mother tongue but also other Indian languages, as this fosters cultural understanding. He added that celebrations like BhartiyaBhashaUtsav enhance linguistic pride, creativity, and cultural awareness among the younger generation.
