On the occasion of World Environmental Education Day, 26 January, the University Environment Committee successfully organized a “Nest for Nature: Bird House Installation Drive” on the university campus, aiming to promote environmental awareness, biodiversity conservation, and the protection of native bird species, especially sparrows (Gauraya).
The program witnessed the gracious presence and active participation of the university’s esteemed leadership. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CEO Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj formally inaugurated the drive by installing a birdhouse, symbolizing the university’s strong commitment towards environmental sustainability. CEO Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj also installed a bird house and addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility towards nature and environmental protection. He stated that awareness and action at the institutional level are essential for building a sustainable future, and assured that bird houses would be installed across the entire university campus as a long-term conservation initiative. The university’s dedicated efforts to protect Gauraya (sparrows) were also highlighted during the program, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to preserving ecological balance and supporting urban biodiversity through continuous environmental initiatives.
The drive also saw the active participation of Executive Officer Dr. Krishna Murthy, who installed a bird house and encouraged community involvement in environmental conservation activities. The program was further dignified by the presence of Pro Vice-Chancellor Col. Devendra Swaroop, Dean of Nursing College Dr. Geeta Parbanda, Defence Director Col. Rajesh Tyagi, along with other distinguished faculty members, officers, and respected members of the university fraternity.
This Bird House Installation Drive was conducted under the initiative of the CEO Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, reflecting visionary leadership and a proactive approach towards environmental responsibility. The University Environment Committee, with the cooperation and support of all university departments, collectively arranged and gathered the bird houses. These bird houses were subsequently installed at various strategic locations across the campus to ensure safe shelter for birds and to create a bird-friendly ecosystem within the university environment.
The program served as a powerful message of environmental stewardship, sustainability, and collective responsibility. Through such initiatives, the university continues to strengthen its role as a socially responsible institution, promoting ecological consciousness, conservation values, and environmental education among students, faculty, and the wider community.
