Faculty members Dr. Neha Singh (HOD), Dr. Arpana Kamboj, Ms. Shradha Yadav, and Ms. Anisha Anand accompanied the students of Fashion and Textile Design. At 8:30 a.m., all students were instructed to report to College. Prof. (Dr.) Pintu Mishra, the college’s principal, and dean wished all of the students good luck with their learning and a safe voyage. 25 students with 4 faculties left at 10:00 a.m. and arrived at the destination at 11:00 a.m. There we met Mr. Vivek Aggarwal (Dean, Department of Textile Technology) and Mr. Vineet Tyagi (Senior Manager NITRA), He welcomed the students and explained the purpose of the visit. He gave a brief idea about the NITRA and how it works, and what are its criteria for inspection of the fabric. Yarn or fiber for the required purpose. After a brief introduction, students started their visit from the Spinning Unit where the students saw the working process of fiber to Yarn, then they proceeded to the Weaving Unit where they were made aware of the working process of yarn to fabric through the loom. Students were also shown the conventional loom and how the technology proceeded from handloom to power loom. Then they went to a protective textile inspection lab where the students saw the machinery and equipment to test the protective textile like helmets, bulletproof jackets, stone attack textiles, etc. Then students were taken to the physical testing lab where they saw the machinery and equipment for testing the textiles physically for different parameters like durability, strength testing of the fabric, force test of the fabric, pilling test, dimensional stability test, a twist of the fabric, etc. Then they proceeded to the chemical lab where they tested the color fastness to perspiration, dry cleaning, to water, to sunlight, etc, the water-resistant fabric, fastness against light, to avoid shrinkage, and many others. Then the last was Apparel manufacturing Unit where the students were explained how the apparel is produced by using different machinery link single lock stitch machine, double lock stitch machine, Overlock machine, interlock machine, button tucker, and buttonhole machine, fabric cutting knife, fusing pasting machine, etc. Then students were made to sit in a seminar hall where they were asked to clear all the queries or doubts they have during the visit. The students also procured physical samples of certain yarns for future references; they also visited the library where they went through different informative books and journals on textile. It was a very informative and knowledgeable visit, the experience was embraced with a lot of practical exposure combined with theoretical information about various aspects of fashion and textile. We thank Mr. Vivek Aggarwal and Mr. Vineet Tyagi for making our visit an eventful experience. We wish to plan such visits for the students in the future again to increase their industrial exposure.
