Educational Trip to Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun

The Department of Languages organized an educational trip to the Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, on 17 November 2025. A total of 17 students accompanied by 02 faculty members, Dr. Ashish Kumar and Dr. Nishi Raghav, participated in the trip under the guidance of Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Department of Languages.
Before departure, Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, addressed the group and motivated them to gain maximum academic benefit from the experience. In an inclusive gesture of support, Dr. Seema Sharma along with faculty members Dr. Rafat Khanam, Dr. Manisha Luthra, Dr. Ranveer Singh, Ms. Swati Sharma, Dr. Preeti Sharma, Ms. Bhavana Joshi, and Ms. Soni Chauhan wished the students good luck for a fruitful learning journey. The team departed from the university at 8:30 AM.
During the journey, faculty members explained the cultural, historical, and environmental significance of FRI, preparing students to view the visit through the lens of language, literature, and communicative skills.
At FRI, students visited six museums including the Timber, Entomology, and Non-Wood Forest Products Museums. The guided tour offered a unique opportunity to observe ecological artifacts, plant species, and research methodologies, helping students understand how environmental knowledge intersects with literature, language learning, and creative expression. Faculty members facilitated discussions connecting ecological themes with nature writing, environmental literature, linguistic representation, and communication skills.
The trip also strengthened interpersonal relationships and academic bonding among students and faculty. Shared learning experiences encouraged teamwork, cooperation, and a deeper sense of community within the Department of Languages.
The grandeur of the FRI campus and interaction with its staff enriched students’ understanding of conservation narratives, scientific communication, and the linguistic portrayal of nature in various literary traditions.
The group safely returned to the university at 9:00 PM.
