Dramatic Monologue and Role Play Competition
The inauguration of the English Literary Week organized by the Department of Languages was successfully conducted as a historic academic milestone. This week-long vibrant literary carnival and university-level student development programme marks the first initiative of its kind in the history of Subharti University. The opening day emerged as an enthusiastic confluence of intellect, creativity, and performative expression, transforming the campus into a celebration of language, literature, and leadership.
The programme commenced with an inspiring welcome address by Dr. Rafat Khanam, Programme Convenor and In-charge – English and Foreign Languages. Introducing the concept and structure of the week-long event, she highlighted the transformative power of language in shaping thought, expression, and confidence. The event was skillfully anchored by Vidhi Goswami, M.A. English ,IV Semester student, whose eloquence ensured the smooth and dignified conduct of the proceedings.
The highlight of the day was the Dramatic Monologue and Role Play Competition, evaluated by Dr. Shweta Bhardwaj, Additional Dean, Student Welfare. Participants captivated the audience through character portrayals inspired by diverse literary and imaginative sources — including dramatic expressions from Romeo and Juliet, performances inspired by Aurora, fairy-tale narratives, creative reinterpretations of anime characters, and a powerful enactment of an advocate in a courtroom setting. The stage came alive with impactful dialogue delivery, theatrical expressions, and interpretative depth, while students from various faculties enthusiastically participated and appreciated the performances.
Objectives
- To strengthen students’ spoken and written proficiency in English through competitive and performative platforms.
- To cultivate sensitivity toward literature, linguistic aesthetics, and interpretative thinking.
- To provide opportunities for students to overcome hesitation and develop confidence and effective stage presence.
- To encourage interdisciplinary participation by bringing together learners from diverse academic streams on a shared intellectual platform.
These competitions reflected the program’s commitment to strengthening communication skills, fostering literary sensitivity, and encouraging stage confidence. Participants earned appreciation from the judges for their eloquence, logical clarity, literary understanding, and effective presentation skills.

The Literary Week, continuing from 5–11 February 2026, features a series of debates, creative writing competitions, quizzes, musical performances, and academic presentations aimed at strengthening holistic education through a balanced integration of scholarship and creativity. The first day concluded in a joyful atmosphere — signifying not merely the beginning of an event, but the establishment of a strong literary tradition at Subharti University.
