Guest Lecture on Green Chemistry Myths and Reality: Sustainable Development through Science

A guest lecture on was organized by the Department of Chemistry at Keral Verma Subharti College of Science for UG and PG students. The program was started with the lamp lighting by Dean Prof. (Dr.) Renu Mavi, Guest Speaker Dr. Nisha Saxena and faculties of Department of Chemistry. The Guest speaker Dr. Nisha Saxena presently working as HoD, Department of Chemistry, MRM College, a Constituent Unit of Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga, Bihar delivered a guest lecture on “Green Chemistry Myths and Reality: Sustainable Development through Science“. The lecture began with a quick overview of the importance of green chemistry in daily life. The importance of designing the chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use or generation of hazardous substances was emphasized. She also focused on the importance of green chemistry for the synthesis of various pharmaceutical drug compounds.

She made an intriguing remark to support the invention of more environment friendly chemical processes which reduce or even eliminate the generation of hazardous substances. She also briefed about the twelve principles of Green Chemistry. The holistic application of these principles is encouraged to minimize the environmental footprint and increase the safety of commercial synthetic routes to crop protection active ingredients.

The lecture was finished with a discussion of some recent advances in the field of green chemistry. She highlighted the application of green chemistry in the chemicals, pharmaceuticals, papers, polymers, clothes and color industry. She also discussed the key role of green chemistry in different energy science, and the manufacture of innovative technique to make solar cells, fuel cells and batteries for storing energy. The lecture provided students and faculty members with an excellent opportunity to learn about the green chemistry and their significance in numerous branches of chemistry.
