Raja Kunwar Singh Subharti Department of Library and Information Science organized a guest lecture titled “Applications of Information Technology,” delivered by Dr. J.A. Siddiqui Head, Department of Library and Information Science , C.C.S. University, Meerut,  which captivated and inspired the academic community. Dr. Siddiqui, a distinguished expert in the field. The  session  was for  both intellectually stimulating and practically relevant, emphasizing the indispensable role of information technology (IT) in shaping the future of library science.

Dr. J.A. Siddiqui’s lecture was a benchmark in the contemporary relevance of IT for libraries. He began by highlighting how the integration of IT has revolutionized core library functions—acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, and serial control—making them more accurate, efficient, and user-friendly. Dr. Siddiqui illustrated how the adoption of technology has reduced manual labor and paperwork, thereby enhancing the management and accessibility of library resources. Dr. Siddiqui linked IT applications to Ranganathan’s five laws, showing how technology enhances accessibility, meets individual reader needs, and saves time through efficient information retrieval. He emphasized that IT-driven digital libraries remain dynamic and adaptable in today’s fast-evolving information landscape.

Dr. Siddiqui stressed the need for ongoing professional development, highlighting IT skills as essential alongside traditional library knowledge. Quoting Prof. A.C. Foskett, he likened library science without classification to a desert, emphasizing the vital role of IT in modern cataloguing and organization. Dr. Siddiqui highlighted libraries’ role in university rankings, stressing that strong IT-enabled services reflect academic excellence. He encouraged embracing IT as both a challenge and opportunity, urging lifelong learning.

Concluding, he wished students well and urged future librarians to blend IT skills with library science to meet modern demands.

Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences in his closing remarks, expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Siddiqui for the enlightening and thought-provoking session. He acknowledged the clarity and depth with which complex concepts were presented, making them accessible to all attendees.
