Guest Lecture on Cyber Security

As part of Deekshaarambh 2025–26, the Induction Programme for newly admitted B.A. and M.A. students, the Department of Liberal Arts & Humanities, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, organized an enlightening Guest Lecture on “Cyber-Security” to promote awareness on digital safety, data protection, and responsible internet usage among students and staff.

The resource person for the session was Dr. Shashiraj Teotia, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Computer Applications, SVSU, Meerut. Dr. Shashiraj Teotia was warmly welcomed with a planter by Dr. Manoj Kumar Tripathi, Head of the Department of Liberal Arts & Humanities. Dr. Manoj Kumar Tripathi highlighted the importance of introducing cyber awareness to students at the start of their academic journey, stressing that knowledge of cyber hygiene is essential in today’s technology-driven environment.

Dr. Shashiraj Teotia delivered a highly interactive and engaging session, covering key aspects of cyber-security such as safe browsing practices, data privacy, phishing threats, and digital etiquette. The lecture was not only informative but also thought-provoking, encouraging students to adopt secure online behavior. Drawing from his vast expertise in the field of cyber-security, Dr. Teotia simplified complex technical concepts to ensure clarity and accessibility for all participants, regardless of their academic background. He meticulously covered crucial aspects such as safe browsing practices, stressing the importance of using secure websites, regularly updating browsers, and avoiding suspicious links.

In his discussion on data privacy, Dr. Teotia highlighted the risks associated with oversharing personal information online and the necessity of strong, unique passwords, multi-factor authentication, and regular monitoring of digital footprints. He gave real-life examples of phishing threats, explaining how deceptive emails, messages, and websites are used to trick users into revealing sensitive data, and offered practical tips to identify and avoid such scams. He emphasized that being a good digital citizen not only involves protecting oneself but also contributing to a safer online environment for others.

The lecture was not just informative in terms of content, but also thought-provoking, as it challenged students to reconsider their own digital habits and adopt a more cautious and responsible approach to using technology. It empowered them with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the digital world safely—an essential skill in the 21st century.

The event witnessed the gracious presence of several esteemed faculty members including Dr. Durvesh Kumar, Dr. Mohini Mittal, Dr. Niyati Garg, Dr. Ruby, Dr. Lovely, Dr. Sarita, and Mr. Kapil Kumar. The session was hosted by Dr. Kiran Rani Panwar, while the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Miss Juli. The event was coordinated by Dr. Amrita Chaudhary.

The session saw enthusiastic participation from newly inducted students, including Manjeet Goswami, Puneet Goswami, Atul Kaushik, Shaurya Pradhan, Vansh, Srishti, Himanshi Mishra, Nida, Prashant, Jay Bhadana, Vanshika Chaudhary, Narayani Aggrawal, Aaliya, and Dhruv. Their active involvement made the session even more dynamic and meaningful.
