INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO PARLE Biscuit Pvt. Ltd. BAHADURGARH, JHAJJAR ON 6 OCT 2021

BRIEFING ABOUT THE COMPANY VISITED

In 1929 a small company by the name of Parle products emerged in British-dominated India. The intent was to spread joy and cheer to children and adults alike, all over the country with its sweets and candies. The company knew that it wouldn’t be an easy task, but they decided to take the brave step. A small factory was set up in the suburbs of Mumbai, to manufacture sweets and toffees. A decade later it was upgraded to manufacture biscuits as well. Since then, the Parle name has grown in all directions, won international fame, and has been sweetening people’s lives all over India and abroad. Apart from the factories in Mumbai and Bangalore Parle also have factories in Bahadurgarh in Haryana and Neemrana in Rajasthan, which are the largest biscuit and confectionery plants in the country. Additionally, Parle Products also has 7 manufacturing units and 51 manufacturing units on contract. A long time ago, when the British ruled India, a small factory was set up in the suburbs of Mumbai city, to manufacture sweets and toffees. The year was 1929 and the market was dominated by famous international brands that were imported freely. Despite the odds and unequal competition, this company called Parle Products, survived and succeeded, by adhering to high quality and improvising from time to time. A decade later, in 1939, Parle Products began manufacturing biscuits, in addition to sweets and toffees. Having already established a reputation for quality, the Parle brand name grew in strength with this diversification. Parle Glucose and Parle Monaco were the first brands of biscuits to be introduced, which later went on to become leading names for great taste and quantity.

The first plant of Parle G was set up in 1929 and the plant visited by FCBS students in Bahadurgarh was set up in 1939. The Parle name symbolizes quality, nutrition, and great taste. With a reach spanning even the remotest villages of India, the company has definitely come a very long way since its inception.

DETAILS OF APROPOS INDUSTRIAL VISIT:

Industrial visits are an integral part of Management Education and it is this experience that helps students to gain first-hand information regarding the functioning of various industries. It provides students with an opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods, and employment practices. Moreover, it gives exposure from an academic point of view.

The Industrial visit to Parle Biscuit Pvt. Ltd. Bahadurgarh, was well designed and coordinated. With an objective to improve the analytical and managerial skills of our future managers, Acharya Vishnu Gupt College of Management and Commerce organized a one-day industrial visit to Parle, Bahadurgarh on 6th October 2021 for 47 students (23 boys and 24 girls) of BBA, B.Com, B.Com (Hons.) and MBA Final year. A list of students concerned is enclosed.

Students were escorted by Mr. Umang Verma, Mr. Archit Katyayan, and Ms. Anshu Sirohi. Bus (Bus No. – UP15ET2694) departed from the institute at 7:45 am after following the protocol of send-off  by Prof.(Dr.) R. K. Ghai, Dean FoMC, and Director AVGSCMC to respective students and staff for Industrial Visit and reached the company at 12:20 pm.

Students visited the Processing Plant, Packaging Plant of Biscuits and Wafers, where they got a chance to see the inside view of the factory where right from the dough (the first input) to the last stage i.e., packaging and how each step is performed mechanically. The students were also taken to the printing department. In one minute, lakhs of products can be manufactured by an efficient machine. The environment inside was aesthetic, pure, and hygienic. The Parle G products are economically so affordable that they are marketed even in the remotest part of the country.

During Processing and Packaging Plant visit, students made the following observations to understand the processing.

Further,  Ms. Pallavi who was the coordinator at Parle  guided students during the Visit. She displayed a documentary film on Parle Industryexplaining the working of the plant and gave an insightful presentation related to the working of the plant and its production including the automation of the plant which follows the highest hygiene standards. The documentary was enjoyed a lot by the students. She also described the diversified functions of the company in a nutshell and throw light on the market share of the product as well.

The visit ended with a vote of thanks from both sides. Students were given packets of Parle wafers and delicious Candies. Students and staff reached the Institute at 6:00 pm on 6th Oct’2021.  

Conclusion:

Overall, the activity was highly interactive and a great learning experience for the students on the concepts related to production and operations within a manufacturing plant. The combination of learning while having fun was made possible by seeing the assembly process in person. Students expressed their hearty thanks to our worthy Dean& Director to provide such an opportunity to enhance their knowledge. 

Thus, Visit has been termed Successful.
