Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Celebrates International Mother Language Day on 21st February 2026
The Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University organized a grand cultural festival on International Mother Language Day at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium on 21st February 2026. The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana, followed by vibrant competitions in singing, dance, and drama.
Objectives:
- Promote respect and pride for mother tongues.
- Celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity.
- Encourage creative and literary expression.
- Inspire preservation and promotion of native languages.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Seema Sharma emphasized that the mother tongue forms the foundation of cultural heritage, emotional identity, and social consciousness. She urged students to actively preserve and promote their linguistic roots.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Col.) Devendra Swarup highlighted multilingual education as a pillar of cultural continuity and national unity.
Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dr. Shalya Raj shared that education in one’s mother tongue strengthens confidence, emotional depth, and intellectual clarity, shaping responsible and value-based citizens.
Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Sudhir Tyagi described language as the soul of society and reaffirmed the university’s responsibility in safeguarding linguistic heritage.

- Solo Dance: 1st – Sedrina Dangi (Subharti College of Allied & Health Care); 2nd – Aman Tyagi (Hotel Management); 3rd – Deepika Srivastava (Languages Dept.)
- Group Dance: 1st – Language Dept.; 2nd – Panna Dhai Maa Nursing College; 3rd – Forensic Science College
- Solo Singing: 1st – Kasturi (Law College); 2nd – Sakshi (Medical College) ; 3rd – Hrithik (Languages Dept.) & Sandeep (Computer Application)
- Group Singing: 1st – Liberal Arts; 2nd – Educational College; 3rd – Law College
Judges included Dr. Nisha Singh (Dance), Prof. Renu Mavi (Drama), and Dr. Manju Adhikari (Singing). Winners were awarded mementos and certificates.

The program was efficiently anchored by Rudraksh, Medhavi, and Samiya, ensuring smooth coordination and continuity.
The celebration concluded with the national anthem, marking a meaningful tribute to linguistic diversity and national unity.
