Rahul Sankrityayayan Subharti School of Linguistics and Foreign Languages, FASS organized an event on Knowing Korean historical events in Collaboration with IKBCC On 28th January 2025 at Department of Languages, Faculty of Education Building, 5th Floor.
Dr. Rafat Khanam, In-Charge of English and Foreign languages addressed the participants with the basic information of Korean independence. She told that Korea’s journey since gaining independence in 1945 has been marked by significant historical events that have shaped its political, economic, and cultural landscape. Her presentation highlighted key developments in South and North Korea after independence, illustrating their impact on the region and the world.
The program proceeded with the speech of Mr. Rahul Kumar, Korean Language Trainer. He informed the attendees that Korea has been shaped by struggle throughout its history, from ancient times to the present. Today, it is recognized for the global phenomenon known as the Korean Wave, which has also gained significant popularity in India. Consequently, this activity focuses on Korea’s challenges during the Japanese colonial period and its journey after independence, highlighting key historical events such as the end of Japanese colonization in 1945, the establishment of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North) and the Republic of Korea (South) in 1948, and the Korean War in 1950.
Aditi , Korean Language Student presented a detailed power point presentation effectively. she strated her presentation saying that one of the most defining events in Korean history post-independence was the Korean War. The conflict between North and South Korea, backed by the Soviet Union and the United States respectively, led to massive destruction and the eventual establishment of the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). The war ended in an armistice but no formal peace treaty was signed, leaving the peninsula divided. She further told that South Korea underwent rapid economic transformation, transitioning from a war-torn nation to an industrial powerhouse. Under leaders such as Park Chung-hee, policies focused on industrialization, export-driven growth, and technological advancements. This period saw the rise of conglomerates like Samsung, Hyundai, and LG, making South Korea one of the world’s leading economies.
The engaging presentations and discussions by Korean Trainer and Korean students engaged the participants in interactive quizzes and provided the Korean gifts such as Korean Noodles, Korean Fan, Korean Sweets on answering the right answer. This concluding Q&A session encouraged attendees for further exploration of Korean history.
The “Korea through its Major Historical Events after Independence” was a resounding success activity fostering a deeper understanding of Korea’s post-independence journey. The event provided students and participants with valuable historical knowledge and sparked meaningful discussions on Korea’s culture and civilization. The faculty members and students of Language Department, French students enjoyed the educational activities and the event ended with positive gestures.
