One Week Skill Development Program for Students

Department of Liberal Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Arts and Social Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University organized a student centric One Week Skill Development Program for Students From 14th April to 20th April 2023. The program was organized to hone productive skills in students so that they may showcase and utilize these skills for cracking Competition, to sensitize the need of writing skills at all professional levels and to learn them drafting their own resume for stepping in the corporate world.
The objective of the Skill Development Program was to inculcate various writing skills in students like Application Writing, Letter Writing, Story Writing, Essay Writing, and Poem Writing and Resume writing etc. The Program convener Dr. Rafat Khanam took an initiative to develop the skills in students and it was organized for B A and M A Students in The Department of Liberal Arts and Humanities.
The skill development program commenced with the inauguration on 14th April 2023. Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, FASS, welcomed the initiative taken by the convener Dr. Rafat Khanam. He stimulated the interest in students to acquire professional skills and motivated them to participate in all the events of one week long development program. Dr. Manoj Kumar Tripathi, Head, Department of Liberal Arts and Humanities threw the light on the significance of acquiring writing skills for UPPSC examination and the requirement of written communication skills in the professional world. He conveyed the message of the event that the department is very much concerned for the holistic development of students that’s why the program has been organized and students should enhance their ability and skills by the active participation. Dr. Rafat Khanam detailed the program and fortified students to participate in the skill development program. She further informed them that this one week is an opportunity for student to acquire various communication skills for professional world and show their hidden talent and intimated them that the certificates for I, II, III position will be awarded to the winners for each day’s event.
The first day Students energetically participated in letter writing competition on the theme ‘Encroachment on Public Roads’ and drew the attention of the government and competent authorities in their writings to take a serious action towards the public road encroachment and urged to provide a solution for pedestrians and common people to vacate public road. The winners remained I Pema, II Anshu, III Tripti, and Consolation award went to Arsh Tyagi.
The second day students participated in Application writing on the topic “opening a bank account”. Students drafted application with the best choices of the words. Their selection of word choice was praised by the judge of the event. Tashi B A Final year student got I Position, Pema B A Second year student got II, Nikita B A II year got III position for best application writing.
Third day students showed their creativity, imagination and command on language with the mixture of literary taste by participating in story writing competition.
The first, Second, Third winner of the story witting selected as I Pema, II Tashi, Anshu III and Consolation was given to Vasu B A II year student.
Since 18th April is celebrated as world Heritage day so on the occasion of this day essay writing was held on the title “Incredible Heritage of India and its preservation”. The students gave the insightful opinion to preserve Indian heritage and Altaf , Ujjawal, Juhi, received first, second, third position respectively.
The next day began with poem writing and all the participants eagerly and enthusiastically presented poems on various themes and became the winners. The first, Second and third position was awarded to I- Pema Dechen, II Thuji, III Tripti.
The judge of the entire event was Ms. Vibha Ghavri, Assistant Professor, department of Language. She admired the work and writing of students and showered her blessing for student’s bright future. Dr. Durvesh Pundir, Assistant Professor, FASS coordinated the entire program and stimulated the spark of knowledge in students and could achieve the desired goal as total 67 students participated in the program.
The last day of the program was conducted as “Special lecture on Resume Writing cum Workshop” on 20th April 2023. Ms. Vibha Ghavri conducted the session and trained students how to draft the resume in a proper format. She guided them to include, Contact address, Objective, Educational Qualification, achievements, Curricular and extra- curricular activities, skills and declaration. She discussed all the intricacies of resume writing.
Students thanked the speaker and submitted the resume they drafted during workshop.
The program was concluded with the wise words of Dr. SudhirTyagi, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Science. Dr. Manoj Kumar Tripathi, Head , Departmnt of Liberal Arts and Humanities paid the formal vote of thanks and Dr. RafatKhanam announced the result of the entire event and paid Special thanks to Winners, participants, and Head, Department of Liberal Arts and Humanities and Dean, FASS, and all the competent authorities who helped making the program a great success. Students submitted the feedback form with adequate enthusiasm and remarked that such events should be organized in near future also. Total 67 students and 11 faculty members attended the program. During the program Dr. Harish, Dr. Ankit, Dr. Amit, Dr. Neha, Mr. Manas were present. Total 67 students and 11 faculty members attended the program.
