The Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), Meerut, organized an insightful and awareness-oriented podcast under the Gender Sensitization Cell as part of its series “Subharti Diaries.” The theme of the podcast was “Gender Sensitization in Educational Institutions.” The initiative aimed to promote meaningful dialogue on gender equality, inclusivity, and the creation of a respectful academic environment.

The podcast was anchored by Pryanshi Bhatia, a BAJMC 2nd Year student, who commenced the session by highlighting the importance of gender sensitization in today’s educational context. She explained that gender sensitization involves developing understanding, equality, and respect toward individuals of all genders, ensuring that no discrimination occurs on the basis of gender within schools and colleges.

The esteemed guest for the episode was Dr. Sarika Abhay, Chairperson of the Gender Sensitization Cell at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University. During the discussion, Dr. Abhay elaborated on the concept of gender sensitization and emphasized its significance in shaping responsible and aware citizens. She stated that educational institutions play a crucial role in nurturing the values of equality, dignity, and mutual respect from an early stage.

Dr. Abhay further discussed the various forms of gender bias and discrimination that may be observed in academic settings, including stereotypical attitudes, unequal opportunities, and subtle behavioral prejudices. She stressed the importance of creating a safe and supportive campus environment where every student feels respected and valued.

She recommended that institutions should organize regular workshops and awareness programs, strengthen the functioning of Gender Sensitization Cells, implement clear anti-harassment policies, and incorporate discussions on gender equality into academic curricula. She also highlighted the significant role of media and education in shaping societal perceptions and promoting inclusive thinking.

Clarifying a common misconception, Dr. Abhay stated that gender sensitization is not limited to women’s issues; rather, it concerns all genders and advocates for equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities for everyone. She encouraged students to challenge stereotypes and practice equality in their daily interactions.

The podcast was coordinated by Shelly Sharma, Assistant Professor, whose guidance ensured the successful execution of the event. Ram Prakash Tiwari, Assistant Professor, was also present and contributed significantly to the organization of the program.

In her concluding remarks, anchor Pryanshi Bhatia expressed gratitude to the guest speaker for sharing her valuable insights. She reiterated that gender sensitization is not merely a theoretical concept but a progressive mindset that can bring about meaningful social change when implemented through educational institutions.

The event proved to be a commendable academic initiative by the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, reaffirming its commitment to fostering awareness, social responsibility, and value-based education among students.
