Meerut, October 16 — The Department of Education, under the Faculty of Education , Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, celebrated International Disaster Reduction Day by organizing an awareness event titled “Rising Above Disasters: Students’ Reflection on Punjab Flood.”
The program commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony before Goddess Saraswati, setting a positive and enlightening tone for the day. Prof. (Dr.) Anoj Raj , delivered an insightful address on Disaster Management, inspiring students to think critically about preparedness and mitigation strategies.
Students from B.Ed., B.El.Ed., and M.Ed. actively participated and shared their reflections on the recent Punjab floods, highlighting the role of youth in disaster awareness and community support.
The views of students was evaluated by Associate Professor Dr. Mumtaz Sheikh and Assistant Professor Dr. Roopam Jain, who also announced the results. The winners were:
1st Position: Shrutee Gupta (B.El.Ed., 7th Semester)
2nd Position: Neha (B.Ed., 1st Semester)
3rd Position: Dhani (B.El.Ed., 3rd Semester)
Prof. (Dr.) Indira Singh, Head of the Department, shared vital data and information about the Punjab flood, emphasizing the importance of awareness, early response, and resilience in facing natural disasters and felicitated the winner students with prizes for their outstanding reflections.
The program was smoothly conducted by Assistant Professor Ms. Vaishali Saini , while the vote of thanks was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Reeba Devi.
The event was gracefully anchored by Gungun and Muskan (B.El.Ed 7th Semester Student)
B.El.Ed. 7th semester students efficiently coordinated the entire event.
The program successful fostered disaster awareness among students and reinforced the message of collective responsibility and resilience in the face of adversity.
