“Sing a Song in English” Competition

The grand finale of the English Literary Week at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University resonated with melody, rhythm, and linguistic brilliance as the much-awaited “Sing a Song in English” Competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from both national and international students. The event beautifully blended recreation with academic enrichment, reaffirming the University’s commitment to holistic and student-centric development.

The program was graced by the Special Guest, Dr. Sartaj Ahmad, Dean Student Welfare, SVSU who applauded the efforts of the convenor, HOD and the whole Department of Languages for organizing such enriching and culturally vibrant events. The program commenced with an insightful introduction and welcome address by Dr. Rafat Khanam, Convenor of the program. She proudly presented that the various activities organized at Subharti University serve  platforms for academic enrichment and holistic development, focusing on a student-centric approach. Highlighting the essence of the musical contest, she stated that the purpose of “Sing a Song in English” is to align enjoyment with academics, promoting learning with fun while enhancing language proficiency, confidence, and expressive skills among students. The program was conducted successfully under the noble guidance of Prof. Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Dr. Seema Sharma, Hod Department of Languages. The program received success because of the blessings of Hon’ble VC Sir prof. (Dr.) P.K. Sharma, Most Respected CEO mam prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, Respected EO, Dr. Krishnamurty sir.   

She further remarked, “Music is a universal language. It connects cultures, transcends boundaries, and deepens emotional expression. Through this competition, our students not only showcase their musical talent but also demonstrate their command of English articulation, expressive ability, and confidence on stage.” She added that such platforms ensure the overall personality development of students—one of the prime objectives of the English Literary Week.

Objectives of the Competition

  1. To enhance English language proficiency, pronunciation, and articulation through musical expression.
  2. To provide a dynamic platform that fosters confidence, creativity, and cross-cultural interaction among students.

Outcomes of the Competition

  1. Students demonstrated improved stage confidence, expressive skills, and clarity in English communication.
  2. The event strengthened cultural harmony and interdisciplinary participation, promoting holistic personality development.

The competition showcased a vibrant range of performances including solo, duet, and trio presentations. The hall echoed with melodious voices as participants sang wholeheartedly, filling the atmosphere with joy and enthusiasm. The Judge of the day, Dr. Afreen Almas, Assistant Professor, Law College, appreciated the participants for their confidence, clarity of pronunciation, and expressive performances.

Students from various faculties including Naturopathy, Pharmacy, Polytechnic, Engineering, Management, Law, Liberal Arts, FASS, Languages, and Nursing actively participated, making the event a true celebration of unity in diversity.

The Master of Ceremony, Vidhi Goswami (M.A. English II Year) and Khushi Bhardwaj (M.A. English II Semester), skillfully conducted the program, captivating the audience with their eloquence and stage presence. The event was also attended by esteemed faculty members of the Department of Languages including Dr. Ranveer, Dr. Ashish, Dr. Abhijit, Dr. Swati, Dr. Preeti, Mr. Ankit, Ms. Bhavana, and Ms. Sanya, whose presence added dignity to the occasion.

The week-long celebration concluded with a comprehensive briefing presented by the Convenor, Dr. Rafat Khanam, summarizing the remarkable journey of literary, intellectual, and creative engagement throughout the English Literary Week.

The “Sing a Song in English” competition truly brought together music, melody, rhythm, and language expression in a joyful culmination of the Literary Week. The audience experienced an evening filled with harmony, enthusiasm, and learning – a perfect reflection of Subharti University’s vision of nurturing talent and fostering holistic education.
