The Department of Languages, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University organized a comprehensive Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Program (SVEEP) on January 3, 2024. The program aimed to raise awareness about the significance of voting and electoral participation among students, faculty, and staff.

The workshop commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Shobha Raturi, the program coordinator introduced the theme and objectives of the workshop. Ms. Shikha Sharma (M.A. Hindi – 1st year student), masterfully hosted the program.

The event featured various activities designed to educate and engage participants in understanding the electoral process and the importance of their active participation.

Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, (Professor), Dean, FASS emphasized the critical role universities play in shaping responsible citizens. He stressed the importance of informed voting and how it contributes to the overall development of a democratic society.

Dr. Tushti Sharma (Professor), the Head of the Department, shared insights into the linguistic diversity and its relation to electoral participation. She encouraged students to leverage their linguistic skills to disseminate voting-related information effectively. Her views likely encompassed the role of an informed electorate in shaping the democratic process.

Dr. Rajeshwar Pal Chauhan (Professor) provided insightful perspectives on both the positive and negative reasons contributing to low voter turnout. His analysis shed light on the complexities surrounding electoral participation and aimed to encourage a more comprehensive understanding among the attendees.

Dr. Pooja Gupta, Assistant Professor, shared insightful details about the SVEEP initiative initiated by the Election Commission of India. As a woman, she used her platform to express her thoughts and sentiments through a heartfelt poem. As a woman, she used her creative expression to convey the emotional and transformative power of voting, particularly for women who historically have fought for their right to participate in the democratic process.

Dr. Aashish Kumar, Assistant Professor, took a creative approach to convey the benefits of voting. He recited a poem in Hindi, infusing artistic expression into the discussion surrounding civic engagement and the democratic process.

Dr. Seema Sharma, Associate Professor, and Ms. Swati Sharma, Senior Lecturer, also shared their valuable perspectives on the significance of electoral participation.

A significant part of the event was the poster presentation by students. The students creatively designed posters that conveyed messages related to voter education, electoral processes, and the importance of every vote. The posters not only showcased artistic talent but also served as effective tools for spreading awareness.

The SVEEP program was a resounding success. It achieved its goal of promoting systematic voter education and encouraging electoral participation among students. The diverse perspectives shared by the Dean, HOD, faculties, and the enthusiastic participation of students, both as presenters and audience members, contributed to the success of this initiative. The event served as a reminder of the crucial role education plays in building an informed and responsible citizenry.
