Department of Physical Education Conducts Guest Lecture on “Judo Techniques for Self-Defence, Curtailing Injuries in Sports”
The Department of Physical Education, Faculty of Education, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut organized a Guest Lecture on “Judo Techniques for Self-Defence and Curtailing Injuries in Sports” on 09 May 2026 at the Seminar Hall, Faculty of Education. The programme was conducted with the objective of enhancing students’ practical understanding of self-defence techniques and injury prevention strategies in sports and physical activities.
The session commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Manju Adhikari, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Physical Education, who felicitated the distinguished Resource Person, Dr. Barkha Bhardwaj, Assistant Professor, SRDA PG College, Hathras, by presenting a ceremonial shawl (Padka) and a sapling as a token of respect and gratitude.
During the session, Dr. Barkha Bhardwaj delivered an insightful lecture on the importance of Judo techniques in self-defence, sports safety, and injury management. She elaborated on various preventive measures that athletes and students should adopt to minimize sports-related injuries. The lecture was further enriched with practical demonstrations of selected Judo techniques, enabling students to gain hands-on understanding and practical exposure. The interactive nature of the programme created an enthusiastic and engaging learning environment for the participants.
Around 60 students from B.P.Ed., M.P.Ed., and B.P.E.S. programmes actively participated in the event. Faculty members of the Department of Physical Education were also present during the session and appreciated the informative and practical approach of the lecture.
The programme proved to be highly beneficial for the students as they gained advanced knowledge regarding Judo-based self-defence techniques, injury prevention methods, and their application in sports and daily life. The session successfully contributed towards the holistic development of students by promoting awareness about physical safety, discipline, and practical sports education.
The Department of Physical Education expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university administration and the respected Resource Person for making the event informative, successful, and impactful.
The Guest Lecture also emphasized the growing importance of self-defence education and scientific injury management in contemporary physical education and sports training. Students were encouraged to incorporate safe training practices, discipline, mental alertness, and technical precision into their regular sports activities. The programme served as an excellent platform for experiential learning and skill enhancement, aligning with the department’s objective of promoting practical knowledge, professional competency, and student-centric learning in the field of physical education and sports sciences.
