Tree Plantation Drive
Tree plantation drive by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and NSS organized under an outreach programme.
An awareness programme for tree plantation and environment conservation was organized under the ‘Pollution par vaar’ campaign and outreach programme under the joint aegis of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication’s Community Connect Club (CCC), National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut and Environment Club, Meerut. This programme was held at Shiv Mandir Park located in B Block of Sector-1, Vedvyaspuri. This programme was organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi a martyred Journalist and freedom fighter.
Addressing the NSS volunteers and students of Journalism and Mass Communication Department, NSS Programme Coordinator and Head of Journalism Department, Prof. (Dr.) Subhash Chandra Thaledi said that this programme is being organised under the patronage of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Vice Chancellor Major General (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal and Chief Executive Officer Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj. This tree plantation program has the special support of Environment Club, Meerut of young nature conservationist and social worker Sawan Kannojia of Meerut. During this, Dr. Thaledi said that today’s program will not only spread awareness about environmental conservation among students and volunteers, but it will also be a true tribute to the pioneer of journalism and freedom fighter Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi on his birth anniversary.
During this program, Prashant Kasana, Councilor of Ward No. 6 Meerut Municipal Corporation was present as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of tree plantation and appreciated the efforts to spread awareness about environmental conservation. He said that Swami Vivekanand Subharti University has always been working for the city of Meerut and its residents and today’s effort is also a proof of the fact that the Journalism Department of the University and the NSS Cell are making an excellent effort in collaboration with local organizations to spread awareness about environmental conservation among the people of the society and to conserve trees.
Speaking at the program, Sawan Kanaujia, founder of Environment Club, Meerut, said that today in this tree plantation program, various plants like fruit, shade and medicinal plants are being planted here. The purpose of this event is to promote environmental protection and to spread the ‘War on Pollution’ campaign to the people. Through this initiative, we are trying to make students, teachers and local people aware of their responsibilities towards the environment and also connect them with this campaign.
The program was organized by Assistant Professor Shelly Sharma and Shikeb Majeed of the Journalism Department. Program Officer of NSS Unit-1 and Assistant Professor of Journalism Department Ram Prakash Tiwari hosted the program. During this time, Dr. Vishal Kumar,Program Officer NSS unit-4, Jagbir Singh, Rajendra Singh, Karambir, Ranveer, Environment Club members Manoj, Vasu, Yogesh, Monu, Anand, Rahul, Amit, Prajjwal, Kapil, Sanjay Pal, Bijendra, Kuldeep etc. along with dozens of NSS volunteers and students and local residents were present.
