Workshop and training on “Capacity building for mental health support and well-being”

Two weeks workshop and training program on Capacity building for mental health support and well-being” was organized by the Wellness Center of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University.
The chief guest for the closing session of the program was Dr. Pawan Parashar, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, Subharti Medical College. He said that teachers have an important role in protecting the youth from stress and depression. In his address, Dr. Parashar said that in the current scenario  the youth are found to be suffering from psychological issues like stress and depression the most. The main reason for this is societal , family, economic and peer group pressure etc. Therefore, teachers should help them to get out of it by examining or identifying the early signs as depression and stress among the students at the initial stage itself.
During this, Dr. Rahul Bansal, Chairperson of Wellness Center, while emphasizing on spirituality, said that spiritual consciousness is of great importance in getting out of any kind of stress and depression. He said that when we ourselves stay away from stress and depression, then we can help others to get rid of it more effectively.  In his lecture, Dr. Rahul discussed in detail the role of spiritual integration and good books in life and  shared suitable examples of it.
Dr. Seema Sharma, Clinical Psychologist, Department of Psychiatry, Subharti Medical College, explained in detail about the various stages of stress and depression and the early signs of it. and the problems caused by them. During this, Dr. Seema also shared her experiences with various students. In her lecture, she discussed in detail how to identify and early sign the advance symptoms of  suicide and how to prevent suicide.
Dr. Shalu Nehra, Associate Professor of the Department of Home Science, presented impressive lectures on the topic “Counselling Techniques and Cognitive Distortion”. She gave detailed information to the participants on various methods of counselling, their practical use and the importance of these techniques in mental health. Apart from this, she also shared strategies to identify cognitive distortions and improve them.
Dr. Kiran Rani Panwar, Assistant Professor of Social Science and Arts College, explained in detail the mental, social and physical problems arising from mobile phone addiction.  She explained how excessive screen time causes anxiety, stress, lack of sleep and hindrance in concentration. She  suggested the participants ways of introspection, emotional balance and adopting a positive lifestyle through counseling therapy. She also conducted a meditation exercise so that mental health can be further improved.
At the end of the workshop, Dr. Rahul Bansal and Dr. Seema Sharma presented a role play in which Dr. Seema Sharma played the role of a therapist counselor and Dr. Rahul Bansal played the role of a person suffering from mental pressure in family trouble. In this, positive or negative style was depicted during counseling.
On the occasion of the closing of the program, Dr. Pawan Parashar, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, Dr. Rahul Bansal, President of Wellness Center, Co-President Dr. Nagaraju Kamarthi, Secretary Dr. Swati Gupta and Dr. Sartaj Ahmad congratulated all the participants of the workshop and training and Certificates of appreciation were distributed to Dr. Sarika Tyagi, Dr. Rijul Ranjan, Mr.Ram Prakash Tiwari, Dr. Mohini Mittal, Dr. Kapil Rastogi,   Dr. Uzma, Dr. Jyoti Madhur, Dr. Shreya Panwar, Dr. Reeba Devi, Professor Manu M., Smriti, Dr. Neeru Singh, Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Ms Pragati Jain, Engr. Rajesh Parihar, Dr. Pallabi Mukherjee, Dr. Archita Bhatnagar, Dr. Arpana Kamboj etc.
