The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication organized a workshop on “Creating Rundown for News Bulletin” on 28th October 2025. The session was conducted by Dr. Preeti Singh, Assistant Professor in the department, who guided the students through the technical and editorial aspects of preparing an effective news rundown. Dr. Singh explained that a rundown is the backbone of any news bulletin, as it determines the order, duration, and flow of stories, ensuring a smooth and balanced presentation on air.
During the session, Dr. Singh elaborated on the key points to be considered while preparing a rundown such as selecting news stories based on relevance and news value, maintaining a logical sequence, and ensuring proper timing and coordination between anchor, newsroom, and technical team. She also discussed the editorial judgment involved in choosing which stories to include in a bulletin, emphasizing the balance between hard and soft news. The trainer highlighted practical aspects like writing anchor intros, assigning story durations, and avoiding common mistakes like repetition or imbalance in content.
Students were also given a hands-on exercise to create a rundown for a short news bulletin using current news topics. They actively participated in the activity, demonstrating creativity and better understanding of how newsroom operations function in real-time. The interactive nature of the workshop allowed students to ask questions and clarify their doubts related to scripting, formatting, and live coordination.
