Department of Languages, (Rahul Sankrityayan Subharti School of Linguistics and Foreign Languages), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, successfully organized a hands-on Workshop on Reusable Bags on April 13, 2026 . This initiative was specifically designed to address SDG-12: Responsible Consumption and Production , fostering a culture of environmental consciousness within the academic community. The event centered on the urgent theme of “Zero Waste” and provided a platform for students to explore sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics.
The highlight of the event was the technical session led by the invited expert, Ms. Abhilasha, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Fine Arts. With her extensive expertise, She provided a masterclass in the creation and utility of eco-friendly carriers. She offered in-depth guidance on working with durable materials like jute and cloth, demonstrating how functional design can directly contribute to a plastic-free tomorrow. Her mentorship allowed students to engage directly with the mechanics of bag construction, turning theoretical environmental goals into tangible products.
Furthermore, Dr. Preeti Sharma played a pivotal role in the workshop’s success, conducting the session and ensuring an engaging, structured learning environment.
Adding to the academic depth of the program, Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Department of Languages, delivered a compelling lecture on the global importance and daily applicability of reusable bags. She expanded the scope of the discussion to include versatile options such as paper bags and reinforced the vital cultural shift needed through the slogan ” Carry Your Own Bag .” She emphasized that sustainability is not just a policy but a personal habit that begins with individual action.
The workshop was well-attended by faculty members including Dr. Rafat Khanam, Dr. Yeshpal, Dr. Swati Sharma, Dr. Ashish, Dr. Nishi Raghav, Dr. Preeti Sharma, Mr. Ankit, Ms. Bhavana Joshi, and Ms. Soni Chauhan, whose presence ensured a rich, interdisciplinary learning environment for all students involved.
