Legal Literacy and Awareness Week-2021

To spread awareness among the students, Legal Literacy and Awareness Week-2021 was organized by the Faculty of Law. The activity was done to spread awareness on the topic as it is the constitutional obligation of the Citizens of India to fulfill their duties towards the Nation. The awareness week was organized from 20/11/21 to 26/11/21. The list of the events are as follow:

This week started with an awareness walk within the campus by students and faculty members under the direction of Shri Rajesh Chandra, Director (Former Judge High Court of Judicature at Prayagraj) & Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, Dean, Faculty of Law. On this occasion Shri Rajesh Chandra, and Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, motivated the students to participate in such awareness activities. Students actively participated in Poster Making Competition and Research Article competition on the second and third days. An awareness talk on ‘Know Your Constitution’ was organized on the fourth day. Shri Rajesh Chandra, Director elaborately discusses the important facts related to the Indian constitution.

A door-to-door survey was organized on the fifth day (24-11-2021) at Ved Vyaspuri Sector – 1, Meerut, from 11 am to 2 pm. under the guidance and support of Justice Rajesh Chandra, Prof. Dr. Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, and Dr. Reena Bishnoi (Assoc. Prof). The survey was coordinated by Dr. Ashutosh Garg (Assoc. Prof) and Anjali Yadav (Asst. Prof). 20 students of B.A.LL.B (IIIrd Semester) participated in the survey. The students met with local residents, street vendors, and shopkeepers with a set of questionnaires related to basic legal awareness. The residents were also informed about the legal aid clinic at the Subharti University, Faculty of Law.

On the seventh day, on the occasion of National Constitution Day, a seminar was organized on the topic – “Mission Shakti and Cyber Security in India” at Sardar Patel Auditorium. Former Judge Mr. Alok Saxena was the chief guest of the event whereas Prof. (Dr.) G.K. Thapliayal, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, presided over the event. Dy. Commandant RAF, TRG Mr. Neeraj Kumar Jha was the special guest of the event. Shri Rajesh Chandra and Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya also graced the event. Prof. (Dr.) Neeraj Karan Singh (Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Science, Subharti University) enthralled the audience as he was the master of the ceremony. All the dignitaries present on the dais were welcomed by gifting a sapling in the true Subharti tradition, a commitment of Subharti towards the protection of the environment.

Thereafter all the dignitaries proceed for the lightening of Lamp and after this Shraddha Sherpa  & Shewang Rai, students of BALLB recited the Preamble of Indian Constitution in both languages  Hindi and English respectively. 

Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya delivered a welcome speech during which he mentioned that “Article 39 A” of the Indian Constitution provides the provisions related to free legal aid to the indigent, poor and helpless people of the society and also shared the functions performed by the District Legal Services Authority. Further, he introduced and reminded the audience about their duties as a citizen of India, which are given in Article 51A under Part-IV A of the Indian Constitution.

Dr. Reena Bishnoi proceeded with the event by enumerating the objectives and tasks to be covered in the seminar. She said that as ‘every good side has a bad side too’, the same is true with computer and internet technologies. In this connection, she discussed cyberstalking, cyber defamation, cybersex, cyber eve-teasing, cyber flirting, and cheating as a common threat to women’s safety.

Dr. Shashi Raj Teotia, HOD, Faculty of Computer Science, SVSU gave a detailed presentation on cyber security while enumerating the incidents and the increasing rate of cybercrime in the country.  Mr. Neeraj Kumar Jha expressed his concern on cyber security issues and shared his experiences during his service. He highlighted the dangers connected with the use of the internet. He also mentioned the complications involved in resolving the issues of cyber-related crimes. He informed that every district has a cyber cell to resolve issues connected with cyber matters.  

Mr. Alok Saxena, the Former Judge, also encouraged such activities and emphasized the benefits of such resourceful activities as they would give a multi-dimensional understanding of the topic. He spoke on the fundamental rights of the people and the right to equality. In this connection, he referred to the judgment of courts on homosexuality and other types of cases relating to women’s security.

Prof. (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University,  Meerut, in his opening speech blessed and appreciated the initiative to organize such seminars as a composite effort under a multidisciplinary education system. On women issues, he said that the words “Women Empowerment” do not seem an appropriate word. A woman has to only be Re –  Empowered and for that men have to change their mindset. Shri Rajesh Chandra, Former Judge – High Court & Convener Dr. Ambedkar Chair, SVSU shared much information about the Constituent Assembly and its debates. He remembered the sacrifices of the freedom fighter in the freedom struggle of India. He said that the Constitution should be followed in true spirit.

Prizes were distributed by the Hon’ble guests and dignitaries on the dais which were given to the participants and winners of “Legal Literacy and Awareness Week-2021”.  Dr. Ashutosh Garg (Associate Professor) Dr Sartaj Ahamd (Associate Professor), Mr. Vikas  Tyagi (Assistant Professor), Ms. Afreen Almas (Assistant Professor), Ms. Anjali Yadav (Assistant  Professor), Ms. Ana Sisodiya (Assistant Professor), Ms. Shalini Goel (Lecturer), Ms. Anjum Jahan  (Lecturer), Ms. Itisha Jain (Lecturer) and other college faculty members and students attended the program.  

A vote of thanks to all the dignitaries was spoken by Dr. Prem Chandra (Assistant Professor). Dr.  Manoj Kumar Tripathi, Associate Professor conducted the pledge Ceremony of “Constitutional  Duties” at the gathering. Thereafter Dr. Prem Chandra, Associate Professor, rendered the Vote of thanks to all the guests. The program was concluded with the recitation of the National Anthem.
